Humpty Dumpty Fell cos he SAT...
You must have heard of this popular nursery rhyme that goes like this-
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
And all the kings men and.....you know the rest of it(smiles).
This has been playing in head non stop this evening and after a while it had me thinking of the poor guy and his predicament.
Give special emphasis on the word 'sat', in that rhyme, which is the simple past tense and past participle of the word sit. Its a verb that simply means to rest while doing nothing, as in the case of Humpty Dumpty. He was sitting on a wall and soon fell to his doom which no one could help him out, but I have a few questions for the guy.
How did he manage to get up that wall? Did someone push him down? Why did he fall? Why did he choose to sit on a wall? All these questions and many more that I have to ask this guy or the writer of the poem.
I do not have all the answers but my common sense has given me the answer to one question though. Why did he fall? Well he fell simply because he was sitting and the fall was as bad because he was sitting, only God and the writer of that rhyme knows how long he had been sitting there on the wall. Mind you, the fall wasn't made bad because he was on a wall, but because of him sitting on the wall. It was the sitting that was bad.
Why did I say the sitting caused all his problems? Well you could also ask yourself what would have happened if he was standing on the wall? I know what would have happened, he wouldn't have fallen, period (and then maybe we'll have had to look for some other rhyme to enjoy, lol).
Sitting is a form of energy in physics, potential energy. It involves the situation where the whole body becomes less alert and active and also unaware of the surroundings. So poor Humpty was resting on a wall, what ignorance. In some other scenario, if he was standing, he would have possessed what we call kinetic energy in physics. Standing means he will be active. If he were to fall from a standing/active position he wouldn't have broken his fragile head probably his arm, or leg but definitely not the head that brought doom.
