Greetings Everyone

Today is really an interesting day for me as most of the things which I was inquisitive and had imagined about before, I was able to practically do them myself and achievement my results.

Today in my school I was able to partake in an experimental practical by dissecting a male albino rat to check out for all the internal organs and their physiology.

We were guided on how to carry out this experiment by Biology lecturer that takes us on the course titled Histology of Vertebrate.
I am glad to be sharing with you all on how I spent my day in the laboratory carrying out this good practical.

Firstly I woke up in the morning, I cleaned up my body and dressed up, after having my breakfast, I left for school with my lab coat for the morning practical class which is slated to hold by 8:00AM, though I was a little bit late but my apologies was accepted.

I wore my nose mask and my lab coat and I immediately join the practical class, present before me was a life male albino rat, dissecting set for dissecting the albino rat, chloroform was used for anesthesia, surgical gloves, ethanol was sterilisation, dissecting board to place and pin the rat on it, normal saline was used to wash off the blood stains, these were the materials I used for the experiment.

The objective of my experiment today was to dissect an albino rat and identify the various organs found inside.

The while class was grouped into 7 groups I happened to be the chief surgeon, the first thing I did
was to placed the rat inside a dessicator that contains cotton wool that is soaked with chloroform, at one minute and ten seconds, the life male albino rat became unconscious, so the male albino rat became ready for the practicals.
I trimmed off the hair in the abdomen of the albino rat to aid easy penetration of my surgical blade and I succeeded in making the inscision. Various organs was intact and the internal organs of the male albino rat was resembling that of humans, the heart was still breathing.

As directed by my lecturer to cut the digestive track out, complete removal of the lungs and digestive system, place it on a Petri dish and add normal saline on it to avoid some blood clot and shrinking of the organs. Upon cutting off the digestive track out, the heart was still pumping until the blood vessels was tampered on.

We removed all the organs and spread them out to identify and differentiate the shapes and sizes of the various organs

My group was able to identify the small and large intestine, spleen, heart lungs, liver, stomach, kidney, after the identification of these organs, my lecturer scored my group 9/10 as part of our continuous assessment for the course.

After the identification we were directed to make a sketch of the male albino rat, various organs and write on our observations, challenges and conclusion.

After that, the lecturer signed out my group showing that we are done with our practicals. The male albino rat was discarded and all the dissecting set and dissecting board was cleaned with ethanol to sterilize them.

This practical class was the only class I had for the day, I moved with my friends to the nearby canteen and bought some food to eat, honestly I enjoyed that rice with my friends. I friends left the school to my house to prepare for tomorrow class.
