Prices of the apartments in South America (in USD and STEEM)

Living in Latin America for 6 years and spending over the year in three countries in this region, made me start wondering about the costs of buying the apartment here. Personally, I am oriented more on buying the land, building my own house, and starting a small permaculture project, but the apartment in some big city is a much more popular dream so I've decided to describe it rather than the land price.

I have reviewed several sources (links in footage) because there is no one page on Internet where I could accumulate all the needed data. I believe that thanks to this summary, many people who are looking for similar information will have it much easier.

The prices are from the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 and refer to the biggest cities - Rio de Janeiro in Brazil (because who would like to live in Brasil city :P) and capitals of the other countries. Please, notice that the economical differences are much, much bigger in Latin America than in Europe or Australia, so the prices vary a lot between different districts. I was trying to take the average price for the square meter from every city and count the estimated price of the apartment based on that, but the real price can be double or even triple in the most expensive districts as well as halved in the cheapest areas. In some cases, the smaller apartments do have a higher prices for the square meter than the bigger apartments and that data was included in my report as well.

To give a nice, personal touch to the post, I counted how much would we have to pay for the apartment in STEEM coin. Please, notice that the value of STEEM used in that post is 0.30 USD (in fact, it's a bit higher today, but I simplified it to count everything faster - it goes up and down constantly in the last few days).

List of the South American countries - ordered from the cheapest to the most expensive costs of buying the apartment

1. Suriname

The cheapest place to buy an apartment in Latin America is Suriname. 1m2 cost approximately 311 USD here. That charming, tiny town will work well for those of you who like high temperatures all year round, because of the tropical climate. It's not the most popular tourist or migration destination - most likely because the national language of Suriname is Dutch.

2. Venezuela

The current situation in the country does not create an inviting atmosphere for foreigners and immigrants. Venezuela is rather one of the countries with the highest emigration rate in the region. It has a rich culture though, wonderful nature and the most friendly people. The average price for a square meter in the capital city, Caracas is 520 USD.

3. Bolivia

It's not so easy to get a permanent visa in Bolivia, but if you really dream about it, I believe it's achievable. That culturally interesting country with Quechua and Aymara traditions visible on every step is closing our top 3 of the cheapest Latin American regions. The average price for 1m2 in the capital city is 920 USD.

4. Ecuador

I have to admit that this surprised me a bit. I haven't been to Ecuador yet, but I was always assuming it's more expensive than the countries around. It's not though - one square meter in the capital city is worth around 1 226 USD

5. Colombia

Beautiful beaches, good music, delicious food, and affordable prices - even though Bogota is much more expensive than the rest of the country, the value of the square meter is still low here: 1 240 USD

6. Paraguay

The country of Yerba Mate, Guarani culture, and... Mennonites in the north - all those intriguing elements you can have nearby if you will decide to live in Asunción. The city offers apartments at the moderate price of 1 293 USD

7. Peru

It's one of the most popular tourist destinations in South America, so I believe I don't have to introduce it to any of you. If you would like to live in that Andean country with rich culture and equally amazing nature, you can find apartments in Lima for 1 890 USD per square meter

8. Argentina

Right in the middle of our report, we have the capital city of the country where I live right now. Buenos Aires - one of the biggest megapolis in the world, invites everyone to live in there with the prices of the apartments worth 2 330 USD/1m2

9. French Guyana

That destination is much less popular and it was quite challenging to find the prices of the apartments there. French Guyana is still the colony of France, so the prices are closer to the European. One square meter is worth 2 550 USD here.

10. Uruguay

Montevideo may seem to be boring at first, but living in Uruguay has a lot of the good sides: it's the safest country in South America, the greenest (lowest air pollution and highest clean energy production per person), and one of the most liberal. The cost of the apartments: 2 950 USD/mm2

11. Chile

I used to live in Santiago de Chile for two years and I love that city. It's chaotic and weird, but also fascinating, untypical, and located in such a nice area - just in a few hours, you can visit the Andes or the Ocean. The average price of the apartments here is 3 440 USD/1m2

12. Brazil

Brasil, Brazil is a bit cheaper, but I have decided to include in that list the prices from Rio de Janeiro - it's closer to the Ocean, it has an amazing festival, and it's much more recognizable internationally. Unfortunately, it's also quite expensive. The prices of the apartments here are around 3 680 USD/1m2

13. Guyana

Who would suspect that the most expensive country in South America will be Guyana? maybe it's because of the fuel and gold that this country has and maybe, at least partially, because there are almost no apartments in Georgetown so I was comparing the prices of the houses in the same size. Anyway, Guyana will close our list with the most expensive square meter worth... 4 390 USD.

Thanks for the information, I have always wanted to stay in Venezuela, for now it's quite a huge sum of money for me but I'm hopeful that with hardwork, consistence and persistence I would one day make enough steem token to afford it

Dream big, work hard and don't let anyone tell you that it's impossible to achieve your dreams - that's what I always tell myself 😉

The world is not very fair and in some cases it's more difficult to achieve the same goal (if we'd born in Norway or Sweden, it would be nothing for us), but I want to believe that we both will get from the life what we dream about - you the place to live in Venezuela, me my own, small piece of land in Argentina.

Hey! Estás de vuelta👏👏👏
Ah!

:( Pero me voy a continuar trabajar por mi "eden" y tengo faith (I don't know how to say "faith" in Spanish and trying to write without translate anymore.
