Soybeans are a type of legume that are the basic ingredients of processed foods such as milk, soy sauce, tofu. Based on archaeological remains, soybeans have been cultivated since 3500 years ago, precisely in East Asia.

Soybeans are the world's main source of vegetable protein and vegetable oil. The largest soybean-producing country is the United States, although soybeans were practically cultivated outside of Asia after 1910.

Soya beans are pea-shaped. One plant can produce 100-250 peas. The characteristics of the pods are hairy and brownish yellow or gray in color. During the fruit ripening process, the pods are initially green and will turn black when ripe.

Soybeans are the main source of vegetable protein nutrition in Indonesia. In addition, soybean seeds also contain fats and vitamins that the body needs. In fact, many processed foods and beverages that can be seen around us that use soybeans as the main ingredient, such as tofu, soybean flour, soy milk, snacks, and also soybean oil. Soybean oil is processed and made into other products such as soap, plastic, ink, resin, solvent, crayon to cosmetics.

Behind the high demand for soybeans, soybeans, especially white soybeans. Indonesia still lacks the supply of raw materials for soybeans to be processed, so imports are needed from foreign countries such as China and Japan. This happens because the white soybeans are not native to tropical plants, so the production in Indonesia is not too high.

In addition to many preparations that can be made into delicious food and drinks, soybeans are also rich in nutrients that are good for the health of the body. Many doctors say soy beans are the best source of vegetable protein. According to research, every 100 grams of soybeans contains approximately 17 grams of protein. And some of the advantages and benefits of soybeans include:

  1. Lowers blood sugar level
The first benefits of soybeans reap two benefits at once, namely keeping blood sugar stable and maintaining heart health. This is influenced by the low glycemic index levels of soybeans. The glycemic index is a value that shows how quickly your body converts carbohydrates into blood sugar. Each type of food and drink has a different glycemic index.

  2. Makes you full longer
The second benefit of soybeans is to make you full longer. Low glycemic index foods tend to be absorbed more slowly by the body. By eating processed soybean snacks, your stomach will be full longer so you can control your appetite. As a result, you will not go crazy eating when you eat big later.

  3. healthier than meat
Red meat is high in saturated fat which can lead to a buildup of cholesterol in the body. Meanwhile, soybeans contain polyunsaturated fats (good fats) which are much healthier. So, there is no doubt that soybeans can meet the fat intake that the body needs in a healthier way.

  4. Safe for consumption by toddlers
This is evidenced by a study in 2012 that compared the development of infants who were given breast milk, cow's milk, and soy milk. In fact, all babies show normal growth and development in the first year of life.
