SEC-S14/W6 - Contemporary lifestyle

Hey Steemian friends!

👉 Are you thinking about adopting a pet or giving it a better life than the one you had?

If you would have read this you already know that I have a furry rascal. Before he chose me, I dreamt of having a majestic Northern Inuit because I became a fan of this breed from the Game of Thrones. But then I learned that they are hard to find and not available in Sri Lanka. So, I set my sights on a Husky. However, my wife is not a fan of any animals particularly, hence has not permitted me to have a pet in the house. We are living in a rented house so I had to think twice about my choice. Whenever I have my own house I will build a kennel and my Husky puppies will live with me.

For the one I have now, he is already running the show and living the best life! Now he lives like a princess from the Royal family and refuses to step outside the comfort of our home. So, I don’t have to think much about making his life better than it already is.

👉 What can you tell us about your pet's food and care now and in the future?

When this furball was small he loved raw fish and I fed him 02 or 03 fish as he wished. With our living style sometimes, it got too hard to wait till the fish get cool down from the refrigerator and it often tested furball patience. so, I introduce dog food into his diet. Strangely, now I feel he is more fond of the dog food and now even a plate of fresh fish struggles to match the allure of a spoonful of dog food.

However, these dog foods are getting extremely costly as they are imported. I tried some local cat foods but I met with a disdainful look from my discerning furball. It seems I have no choice but to give him these imported dog foods.

👉 Tell us how you prepare your days with an entire plan for the care and welfare of your pet?

Now, when it comes to planning the days around my furry companion, let me tell you that there's no grand strategy. He sleeps where he wants, demands cuddles with purrs, and ensures that if he's hungry, our priorities can take a back seat. His plan is simple, and we just have to tolerate all of it.

However, in the spirit of responsible pet parenting, I've got the looming task of getting him a rabies vaccine. Those open claws when he's hungry are a tad too sharp for our comfort. He is a good boy and never did anything to attack us but a little precaution never hurt, right?

In the end, navigating this contemporary lifestyle with a pet in Sri Lanka is a mix of joy, sometimes the only joy. Watching over him and his cuteness can make us stress free, but sometimes he presents us unexpected surprises by bringing dead rats. However, it's all part of having a pet cat and I love it so far.
