Protected Animal (Hill Myna) Status in My Country.

The Hill Myna stands as an endangered species among birds that live in Bangladesh. It is generally found in the hilly forest of Sylhet and Chattogram. Any person will become amazed by the Hill Myna bird which features amazing black feathers and yellow chest along with its stunning vocal sound. It is sad to say that its number is reducing very fast. This bird is harder and harder to survive due to deforestation, illegal hunting, and climate change.

The Hill Myna has listed as an Endangered Species status from the IUCN Red List. It is threatened with extinction. Its sweet calls could have been heard in many forests in hilly areas of Bangladesh in the past but now those forests are quiet. This bird may forever disappear if we do not protect it.

Causes.

The Hill Myna is found in tall trees of hilly forest. Several hilly forests face destruction in the current period. Human activity leads to tree chopping activities and land clearing practices followed by hillside home construction. The birds lose their homes due to these activities.

Illegal hunting stands as a significant major issue during present times. Since its voice sounds appealing many people seek to keep the Hill Myna as a pet. Poachers capture birds for sale thus causing the species numbers to decrease even further.
During childhood I spent sometimes at the home of my neighbor who kept a pet Hill Myna bird. The house visit purpose was always to listen to the bird's vocalizations.

The climate conditions present additional hardships to these birds. The food is not easily found in the forest, and the weather is changing. The lack of emergency action today means our future generation will recognize the Hill Myna only through photographs in books.

Legal Status and Legal Protection.

The government of our Bangladesh has created rigorous legislative measures which protect wildlife species. The multiple offenses of capturing or hunting or trading the Hill Myna is illegal under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012's regulations. The punishment for law violation consists of fines combined with possible jail time.

The hilly forests receive protection through active efforts from the Forest Department. The authorities within the Forest Department enact active to halt both unlicensed tree-cutting and unlawful hunting practices. They are also engaged in awareness programs to make local people understand why it is important to save this bird.

Our country its membership in CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Bangladesh cooperates with other countries to stop endangered animal trafficking between nations.

A large amount of law enforcement alone does not enough to achieve our conservation goals. To safeguard the environment every person needs to understand our duties and take necessary actions.
