Goof Troop is an action-adventure game for the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom, developed and released by Capcom. It debuted in North America and Europe in 1993, and in Japan in 1994. The game is based on the popular animated television series of the same name.

Despite being based on an an early 1990's animated TV show that might not be that memorable as some might think, Goof Troop surprises with its solid gameplay. Capcom's involvement likely contributes to its quality.

The Graphics and Sound

The game's visuals are impressive, capturing the essence of the animated cartoon show with detailed environments and recognizable character designs. While it may not stand out as the most stunning SNES game, it certainly holds its own with its solid visuals. Bosses are particularly well-crafted with unique designs and cool attacking animations.

The soundtrack is surprisingly excellent, featuring catchy tunes that complement the gameplay well. While it may not directly borrow music from the show, the original compositions add to the overall experience, partnered by fitting sound effects that enhance immersion.

The Gameplay

Goof Troop offers a delightful cooperative experience, allowing players to control either Goofy or Max as they embark on a rescue mission to save Pete and his son from cannibals on a mysterious island. With its charming overhead perspective and enjoyable puzzle-action gameplay, the game keeps players engaged across its five long stages.

Combatting pirates and solving puzzles adds to the fun, especially when using items like the grappling hook to knock enemies into pits or water.

Replay value is good, While the game is relatively easy and can be completed in one sitting, its simplicity does not detract from the overall enjoyment. The inclusion of a password system adds convenience for returning players.

My Verdict

Overall, Goof Troop delivers a lighthearted and entertaining experience, particularly in its two-player mode, making it a memorable addition to the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom library of hidden gems.

Play it on the unstoppable Super Nintendo/Super Famicom or play it on a fabulous emulator. Play it with a friend.

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!
