The game starts with Kratos and Atreus mourning the passing of the mom/wife. Her dying wish was to have her ashes spread on her favorite mountain. The 2 take a journey to fulfill the mom's wish. Kratos thinks Atreus isn't ready to do so, because he lets his emotions get the best of him
