One day, Mr Tortoise decided to visit his mother-in-law. He woke up very early in the morning and began his long journey before the cock could crow. He left the house quietly even before his wife could ask for his way about as the journey was going to be a long one. He journeyed on foot for about 5 hours and only stopped to take a rest when he got to a stream. He soon began his journey again after getting enough strength and arrived at his mother-in-law's house.
On getting there, he saw that his mother-in-law was cooking porridge outside in a very large pot. Mr. Tortoise begins to salivate. His mother in-law was happy to see him and asked him to sit down so he join in eating the family's meal. When Tortoise's mother-in-law went in to get a plate inside, Mr. Tortoise brought down his cap from his head and scooped in the hot porridge. Once he heard his mother-in-law's approaching footsteps, he placed the cap with his content on his head.
The heat was so unbearable and worse that of a scorching sun. Mr Tortoise became so uncomfortable and when asked to eat as the food was now ready, he told his mother-in-law that he had an important meeting to run to and so begged to leave.
On reaching the T-junction after his mother-in-law's house, Mr Tortoise pulled off his cap and not only was the skin of his head peeled off but he also became bald in the process. This is why the Tortoise has a bald head.
What are the lessons learned from that story?
The main lesson is the effect of greed. Mr. Tortoise's greed actually destroyed him. He lost not only his hairs but his dignity also.
Mr Tortoise carried out this act because of selfishness. I believe his intention was to gather more food for himself.
