PROMISE TO THE IROKO TREE

A long time ago, in a faraway land.
There lived a woman named Amara, who had been married for years without a child of her own. This was so bitter for Amara.
Some of the village women mocked her, some gossiped about her, while some even disrespected her because she was barren. She doesn't know what to do.
This made Amara so sad and depressed that she will always cry her eyes out. She would cry to God to give her even if it was one child.

"God! Why can't you give me a child of my own?
Amara always wondered.

This continued until one day, when Amara got tired of waiting. She decided to go and ask for a child from an Iroko tree.

The tree was located inside a big forest. Before they do something for you, you must offer it something.
But Amara was so in desperation for a child that she vowed to give that child to the tree if she could have one.

The Iroko tree granted Amara's wish, and so after nine months, she gave birth to a child.
Everyone around Amara was very surprised because they thought she was a barren woman.

Amara was so excited that she forgot the promise she made to the Iroko tree. She pampers her daughter and makes sure she doesn't lack anything. The daughter, grown, became more beautiful and very tall.
As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Amara's daughter grew into a very beautiful daughter, but she still neglected her promise.

When her daughter grows into adolescence, many people are coming for her hand and
marriage, but the IROKO tree doesn't want her to get married.
One day, the Iroko tree became very angry and demanded payment for his vow.

Amara begged and begged, but the Iroko tree was still not ready to listen to her pleas.

The iROKO tree took the life of that girl and made her spirit. And so, her damsel suddenly got lost to the Iroko tree.

This made Amara so sad because she didn't know it was going to be like this, but however she has experienced motherhood.

Lesson: We shouldn't make the promise we can't keep. Let's be mindful of what we do always and be faithful to God; he who sent us to this earth will give us what to do to survive.

What a tragic story for Amara, that why we should never make promise that we can't keep or fulfill. Nice story by the way and success
