Capturing Moments Wk5: Application 2-Insect Photography.
Introduction:
Hi everyone!
In this contest,"insect photography",I choose to capture dragonfly on camera.
Dragonflies are fascinating insects with their colorful bodies and fast flying wings.Their bright wings make them perfect for photography. In this entry, I will share my experience capturing the beauty of dragonfly through my camera.
Tell us about the insect you captured and how this insect behaved when you wanted shooting your shots? |

About Dragonfly:
A dragonfly is an insect that is made up of compound eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, legs and a long body. They can fly unexpectedly and are commonly found near bodies of water. They pass through two stages of development: nymph to Adult.
Dragonflies are predators, that is, they feed on smaller insects, and play an important role in controlling mosquito populations in our surroundings thereby saving us cost of buying pesticides and insecticides.
Due to their agile flight and robotic eyes, scientists found it interesting in developing robot eyes.
The dragonfly's behaviour when I wanted taking the shot :
Since the dragonfly is not an aggressive insect to man,so it was carefully observing what I was trying to do.It did neither attempted to fly nor attack me.
What challenges did you face capturing this insect? did you get the shot well? if yes,how many times did you capture before you got something perfect? |
---|
The only challenge I faced was the fear of suspecting that the dragonfly might fly before I successfully capture it.
With the fear,I had to snap it afar multiple times, but remembered that the instruction states that the shot must be 2 times. so I deleted all the shots and start all over again. This time,I got something perfect, though the insect's wing started moving up and down as a result of mild wind blowing at the moment. After some minutes, the insect flew.Despite all odds, the experience was interesting to me because I remembered back then,we were hunting them as children, without knowing their importance to man.
But this contest has given me an opportunity to review their usefulness in our environment.
Capture 2 pictures of an insect by zooming out and by not zooming out.Tell the differences between the 2 pictures. |
---|
Zoom out view
Zoomless view
Differences between the 2 views
~The Zoom Out view is more bolder to see than the zoomless view.
~Zoomless view, does not significantly reveal that dragonfly perched on the granite material.
~Without zooming out, someone who does not know what is dragonfly might think that it is a very tiny insect or spirit that can only be seen with an aid of microscope.
Conclusion:
Dragonflies are the lowest populated insects in the insects ecosystems on earth.Their big eyes were emulated by scientists in building robots.
Their economic importance cannot be over-emphazised.
Therefore,my experience in capturing one of them with my phone camera was fun- filled.
Thanks for the privilege of making my entry and reading through.
I invite: @chiomi @bella90 and @okere-blessing to make their entries.
