How Zebra got his stripes

They say all good things happens in Africa!

It was a warm and sunny day in one of Africa’s largest game reserves, the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The Big Five,

• the elephant,

• the buffalo,

• the rhino,

• the leopard,

and oh yah, the king of the jungle,

• the lion

were all taking a nap under the shade of the Knob-thorn trees.

Despite what Mom had to say, the young, black zebra’s were not interested at all to come to rest. They were running around playfully, jumping and skipping, chasing each other’s tails.

As they were running in the park they saw some men working on the main road leading to one of the camps. They were very curious and decided to go and have a look at what the men were doing. Slowly and softly they sneak from one bush to the next bush until they’ve reached the men.

Soon they discovered that the men were painting parts of the road with white paint.
“I dare you to cross the road and scare the men” a little zebra said. The biggest of them was braved enough and decided to take up the challenge. He ran across the road.

O dear! He never saw the drum standing on the edge of the road. The zebra slipped and fell right on the white stripe the men has just finished painting. He rolled and rolled and rolled… from the one side of the road right to the other side.

And that kids is how Zebra got his stripes and the road a zebra crossing.
