Greetings to you all, adorable steemkids and noble kids lovers!

You may have heard a lot or maybe just a little about Counsellors. Some people prefer to call them Counselling Psychologists, or Guidance Counselors, or Psychotherapists, or just Counsellors. But who are these people? What do they do? What kind of issues can you possible take to them for help? What can you expect to gain from seeing a counsellor with your problems? Is it safe to reveal your secrets to counsellors? Will they tell on you to your parents/guardians? Would it be smart to keep your issues to yourself or would it be smarter to seek help from a counsellor? Is it expensive to get counselling services? Questions after questions, these. Truth is that these questions have very easy answers and you wouldn't know unless you start giving attention to them. For this post, I will try to answer a few of these questions. I will also consciously allow you to find answers to the rest of the questions in our subsequent engagements. Yes, there'll be "subsequents"! And promise you won't miss any of those. Alright. Let's get started.

SourceNo matter how tangled up you may feel, the counsellor is there to help you untangle and straighten up your mind.

The Counsellor

A professional counsellor is trained and certified to offer counselling services to people on a wide array of subjects covering various aspects of life. Their training often requires a Bachelor's and Masters degree in Counselling Psychology. But most counselor have a PhD in their field of specialization. That's roughly 10-12 years of advanced studies in human psychology (the science of how and why people feel and behave the way they do as they interact with other people and their environment).
Counsellors are trained to understand people, their feelings, their desires and needs, their fears and anxieties, and the barriers to their growth and self- fulfilment. This kind of person surely has what it takes to hear you out and help you. Don't you think? 🤷
Counsellors are trained to be nice to people, to be competent at keeping people's "secrets" safe, to be polite and non-judgemental, to be friendly and caring, and to be dependable. Won't you like such a person as you friend?🤷

The Counsellor's Work

The counsellor works with people to help them understand whatever issues they are currently facing and to fashion out solutions or coping strategies for them. These issues could be about anything:

  • school 📚 and studies 📖, and careers🧑‍🔧🧑‍⚕️🧑‍✈️
  • friends 👯, parents👫, family 👪,
  • recreation/sports🤹🚴🤾🏋️🤸
  • your health, both physical 🤕🛌and mental😰🧘
  • romance 😘💔💑, sex 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 and marriage 👰🤵
  • personal identity 🙇🤦🤷 issues

It is true that counsellors charge moderate fees from clients for the services they render. But at times, some counsellors are paid by institutions to offer free services to people. For example, you don't have to pay from your pocket when seeing the counsellor at your school or place of work. At other times, some counsellors are willing to render free services to those who may not have the money to pay but have serious problems to solve. So while it's good to generously pay the counselor to help you, you should not let money hold you back from seeking help when you feel a need for it.

The counsellor works with all kinds of normal people, regardless of whether they are younger or older, male or female or queer, more or less educated, rich or poor, dark or light skinned. Everyone is free to consult a counsellor! 👍

Your Counselling Needs

Ever thought of seeing a counsellor but never got the chance to do so? You are not alone. Everyone has need for counseling but counsellors are very scarce. So If you're fortunate to have access to a professional Counsellor, you're just one in a billion, very lucky in deed!

You don't need to face a serious problem or get into trouble before you see a counsellor.

Your basic counselling needs include the following:

  • need to develop interpersonal skills and lifeskills
  • need to make and keep good friends
  • need to understand yourself
  • need to do well in school
  • need to chose a good career
  • need to understand love and romance
  • need to understand other people and their ways of life
  • need to communicate effectively with people around you
  • need to be the best you can be in spite of your circumstances
  • need to maintain you mental and physical health
  • and lost more.

So which of these needs would you like me to talk with you on? Please drop in the reply section 👇and I promise to talk about it.🙏

Conclusion

Counsellors are important in our lives. Like medical doctors and teachers, Counsellors can help us grow as a person and become the best we can ever be.
Seeing a counsellor for our needs and problems is a good thing to do, so never hesitate. It is safer and smarter to seek guidance from a professional counsellor than to use random advice from peers on social media.
That will be all for now. Looking forward to your comments on what you would like me to talk about next in the comment section. Looking forward to more engagements from you all in the steemkids community and in need the entire Steemit blog.

Lots of love from me to you! 🥰🥰🥰

You are my counselor and you have just counselled me through this article. In one way or another, most of us have performed the counselor 's role. But the results may not be as when a professional counselor gives his counsel. In any case, we all need the services of a counselor to perform well in everything we do

Jehovah is the ultimate counselor one can ever have. He, is always available at all times . Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece

Thanks for making out time to read through. Parents have a natural roles to play as advisers and guardians to their children especially. Counsellors can help out, and at times some concerns are best left for these neutral "outsiders" to handle as they can be more objective and less sentimental. Looking forward to more engagements 👍

Counsellors are unique people, no wonder they are sometimes called mind surgeons. I love them for who they are. When I'm with a counsellor I feel so free to air out my mind. I thank God for the gift of counselling. So happy to belong to the counselling family.

Counsellors are great people, they help out where we need help as you have said. I don't know if I have seen a professional counsellor but I know you as one. Thank you for letting me understand how important it is to consult a councilor, I'll try to do that more...
