INTRODUCTION

Here I'm going to talk about marriage, so we'll see some meanings of marriage, the types, the purposes of marriage, and the steps and conditions to take before marriage.

What is marriage?
List and explain steps to take towards marriage that is peculiar to your country customs and traditions
Explain at list two preconditions for marriage that is common in your locality.

Meaning of marriage

Marriage is a term used to describe the relationship between a man and a woman who are joined to become husband and wife.

Normally, it is concluded in a wedding ceremony that brings the family of the man(husband) and the family of the woman(wife) together. Therefore, marriage can also be defined as the legal union of a man and woman to become husband and wife.

Types Of Marriage

in Nigeria to be precise, there are two types of marriage, which are;

• Monogamous marriage: This is a type of marriage that involves one man and one woman coming together as husband and wife.

• Polygamous marriage: This is a type of marriage that involves more than one man or woman becoming husbands and wives.

Steps To Take Before Marriage

Below are steps to take before marriage though the steps differ depending on the culture, but here I'll talk about the common ones.

• First step: The two people (man and woman) have to plan on meeting each other to develop interest in the other.

• Second step: courtship- This is the proposal period which the man proposes to the woman and the woman accepts to marry him.

• Third step: Engagement- This occurs after which the both parents of the husband to be and wife to be investigates them health wise, religion, background and where they come from. All these happens at the woman's house where the parents from both families meet for the engagement.

• Fourth step: wedding- This is the final step of marriage, which they are joined together as one either in church or traditionally.
  The wedding can be a christian or islamic wedding.

Preconditions For Marriage

• Involvement of both family members: Both families must come together and have a conversation about the two couples, agreements must be made by both families for their son and daughter to get married.

• Bride price: This is a amount of money or goods that the groom gives to the family of the bride. The amount of price or goods will be discussed and settled on by the bride's family. This must be done and it is a tradition in some tribal societies. This act shows the love the groom has for the bride and the bride's family.
