SLC S22 Week 6 - Herbal Medicine for Menstrual Health
As a lady there are some certain things we need to know in the aspect of herbal products, these are natural herbs and no artificial is attached to.
This herbal tea which I will prepare and present to you all is specifically made to support menstrual health like alleviating symptoms associated with PMS, cramps, and hormonal imbalances. The ingredients I carefully used work together to reduce inflammation, regulate menstrual cycles and it makes one feel so comfortable and relax.
Menstrual Support Tea: Prepare a herbal tea targeting menstrual health. Document the ingredients, preparation steps, and benefits of herbs and remedy. (3 marks)
The ingredients I used in preparing herbal tea for menstrual health are.
- Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis)
- Red Clover
- Ginger
- Raspberry Leaf
- Peppermint seed
How to prepare the herbal tea step by step
What I did was to combine the dried herbs in a small bowl, I wash them very well so that to avoid sand and dust, I then added the amount of water that will be enough, though just a glass since I was not cooking in a large quantities. I then boil it for like 5 minutes and when it was boiling very well, my herbal tea was ready for consumption, I then drain out the tea.
In this aspect I was supposed to use honey or lemon to drink it because is very bitter, but since I didn't have it, I had to drink it like that.
Benefits of Herbs and Remedy:*
- Dong Quai: Help to regulates menstrual cycles, alleviates cramps, and the best part is that it helps to balances hormones.
- Red Clover: I think by now we are all familiar with gloves and we know the benefits but because of the contest requirements I will still state out the benefit of gloves, so guys gloves helps in reducing symptoms of PMS, such as mood swings, breast tenderness, and bloating.
- Ginger: ginger is a popular herbs which helps to alleviates cramps, nausea, and digestive issues that is associated with menstruation.
- Peppermint or hot pepper seed: this really helps in to eliminate digestive discomfort by reducing bloating, and it helps in promoting relaxation.
- Raspberry Leaf: this help to regulates menstrual cycles, it does not only regulate but it also reduces cramps, and help prepare the uterus for pregnancy.

Ginger relieves menstrual cramps and pain, it is one of the pain herbs I have ever come across.
It reduces inflammation and bloating and it also helps digestion and relieve nausea

- Ginger contains this special compounds like shogaol or gingerol which contains anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
- Ginger is so effective , it works in as a pain killer which help in reducing menstrual pains.

It helps in reducing risk of osteoporosis and heart disease
BENEFITS OF CLOVES
Red cloves has isoflavones, this particular property are plant-based estrogens which help to balance hormone levels in the woman body.
Red cloves help to reduce menstrual cramps, hot flashes, and night sweats that is if have menopausal symptoms in your body.
- Red cloves also contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which really help in protecting the woman body against chronic diseases or infections.
Cramp Bark

It helps in relieving menstrual cramps and spasms when menstrating.
It also reduces anxiety and any form of stress that is related to PMS
- It also help regulate menstrual cycles that is if you are experiencing irregular menstruation.

- Cramp bark is consist of a compound called scopoletin, this particular compound contain antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties.
- cramp bark also help in reducing menstrual cramps and spasms in women with dysmenorrhea.
- Cramp bark may also help in reducing anxiety and stress related to PMS.

THE THERE HERBS WHICH I USE ARE

- Ginger : this help to soothes digestive issues, it also help to reduces inflammation, and releaves pains.
RECIPE WHICH I USE ARE:
INGREDIENTS:
- A small portion of dried Cramp Bark
- A tablespoons of dried Red Cloves seed
- A small portion of fresh Ginger root
- 2 cup of boiling water
THE PROCESS OF PREPARATION:
Since my cramp bark was not in powder form I took a portion of it, wash it very well then I put in in a pot.
I wash and slice my ginger to tiny particles then add it to my cramp bark.
Wash my red cloves and add it to the already mixture and I pour in my boiling water. In this process I didn't cook it that why I am using boiling water. Then I let it cool of, I left it overnight and then I drained the tea out and it was ready to consume.
NOTES: I would have loved to add lemon or honey to reduce the bitter taste but since it was not available, I didn't add it. But if you have you can add it to your own recipe to have a nice taste
BENEFITS OF THE HERBAL REMEDIES FOR PMS
- The first benefit is that it relieves Menstrual Cramps*: which the Cramp Bark's antispasmodic properties really help to relax the uterine muscles, it reduces cramps and spasms.

HOW TO USE IT
When you know the exact date you will be menstrating, Drink like a cup of PMS Tea per day, that should be like 3 days before your period.
Make sure you prepare enough of this tea that will take you through out your menstrual floor, continue taking the tea until you stop seeing your period.
With this you won't feel any pains at all
NOTES: This combo is for all weather you experience menstrual pains or not, it is advisable to take it.
In this post I use two herbs back plant, one of the is light in color and the other is dark in color.
The dark one is CRAMP BARK and the second one is light in color which is DONG QUAI
