INTRODUCTION

Nature is really blessed and at such nature is signified by green. Green from the start signified wealth and the world is blessed with abundance of green trees and leaves.
The green leaf contest is very challenging and at such I decided to do a little something on one of the popular leaves in my locality. The bitterleaf.

THE BITTERLEAF

Bitterleaf is a very nice leaf of which its bitterness knows no boundary.
The shape of the leaf is called a leaf-like shape. I am forced to believe that we had been taught in our various schools the different type of leaves are. But nevertheless its importance knows no limits to the human race.
It is botanically called Vernonia amygdalina and has many medicinal and useful significance.
In such cases, the prescription are given with precaution.

Bitterleaf has so many advantages in terms of creating job opportunities as pharmaceutical companies make use of their extracts to manufacture drugs and so much more.

IMPORTANCE OF THE BITTERLEAF

Medicinally, bitterleaf has been proven to cure many ailments. Here are the list if what it can do;

• Bitterleaf has been used historically to cure some diseases like typhoid, gallstones etc
  It has some antioxidants in it that helps cure of the disease.

• It has been helpful in weight loss. People who are very fat can reduce excess cholesterol in the body together with burning of of calories. Just a daily intake of it will do the job.

• Lowers high blood pressure. The bitterleaf is effective in the reduction in level of high blood pressure otherwise called hbp for short.

• Aids in fertility of women. Some hormones in the women are activated by bitterleaf. Even in some hospitals where Doctors diagnose patients, the patients are advised in some cases to take bitterleaf as therapy.

• By so doing, bitterleaf has been a good source of food over here in the southern part of Nigeria, precisely Akwa Ibom state, the land of promise. The soup prepared from the leaf is called Bitterleaf soup aka "efere etidot" meaning bitterleaf in ibibio. The soup which is delicious is one of the numerous recipe of our dishes over here.
