Subject: Computer. Week 3, Topic: Loading Applications | by @manuelhooks |[10% to steemkidss]
Hello everyone, and welcome to the third edition of computing with @manuelhooks. In our previous lesson, we went through the process of booting and shutting-down the Computer.
Loading a Computer Program
Computer Programs are software stored in a computer's storage device, to use a program, the selected program will have to be moved from the storage in to the Random Access Memory in a process called Loading.
A loaded program displays on the screen allow the user access to it.
In today's lesson, we will be learning how to load programs and what to do when you are done using a loaded program.
At The Desktop
Once booting is completed, the computer will display a desktop
This is the desktop
The easiest way to load a program is to double click on the shortcut icon If the shortcut is found on the desktop.
An example of an icon on the Desktop
In some computer systems a shortcut icon for some programs are pinned to the task bar. If you have such on the task bar, clicking on it will load the program.
Icons being pinned to the task bar
If the operating system on your computer has a start Button(windows 7), click on the start button, go over to all programs and select the program you want to load.
Here we have the start button
If you are using a computer with windows 8, you may have to use the search option. To accomplish this, move your pointer to the right edge of your screen, a small window will docking out, locate the lens icon at the top, click on it and enter the name of the program you want to load.
Using The Control Buttons
At the top right corner of every window there are three buttons called the control buttons, these are used to control and adjust the the view of the window.
Minimise will reduce the screen to an icon on the taskbar, a minimised windows is closed it's only taken out of view.
Restore Down / Maximize: this option will restore your window to a shape and size it was before it was maximized allowing opportunity for more than one program to run simultaneously on the same screen.
The last button here is the close button, it is used to send a signal telling the computer that we are done using the program. A closed program is completely terminated and if the data it was handling is not saved, then it's lost.
