In a school, a young boy is being deprived of freedom, threatened, physically and verbally abused by other schoolmates.
He looses confidence and is in fear everyday. The thought coming to school and meeting those people again makes him stressed. Most times he just decides to stay home.
The above is what young people today pass through. These young ones live in fear everyday and more worrisome is the fear of their own peers. They are being mistreated by certain set of people and this affects them badly. This type of mistreatment is known as bullying.

What is bullying?
Bullying can be defined as the aggressive and unwanted behavior which involves the deliberate misuse of power against another person with lower strength or confidence.
The people who perform this type of behavior are known as bullies. They may say or do things that will leave the other person feeling down.
This happens to young ones all around the world including Nigeria, my country.
This type of behavior is common among young ones and the victims nee real help.
Why might young ones be bullied?
Kids may get bullied because of their:
- Height(Tallness/shortness)
- Skin color
- Race/Nationality
- Language
- Belief
Types of bullying
- Physical bullying
- Verbal bullying
- Social bullying
Physical bullying
This involves the use of fists, pushing, shoving, breaking things and stealing from the victim. It is very common and it causes physical and emotional pain to the victim.
Verbal bullying
This type of bullying involves abusing another person verbally. It can include teasing and name-calling.
Social bullying
This is when a kid is being excluded from social activities, is being gossiped especially with the use of internet and social media
How bullying affects young people
The effects of bully in young people include the following:
- Anxiety and depression
- Sadness and loneliness
- Loss of sleep and appetite
- Loss of interest in fun activities
- Lack of socialization
- Fear and thoughts of suicide
How kids can win over their bullies
Here are a few advice for you, if you are a victim of this wicked behavior.
Do not fight back. But be prepared and think before hand what you will say when certain situations arise and be confident in yourself.
Think of ways to protect yourselves, you may have to take your leave when you notice trouble coming.
Do not walk alone to certain places, take a friend with you.
If possible, label all your belongings for school
Talk to a trusted adult, maybe your teacher or parents. You do not have to face it alone, the adults you confide with can help find a solution to this problem.
Conclusion
Many young people are victim to this wicked act everyday, at school, playgrounds, etc. I cannot say I have really been a victim of bully but I know people who have passed through this situation and I can say it's really hard on them.
I hope that this act can one day be stopped and kids stop bullying the others just because they are stronger than them.

You have explained it very well.. but i think kids need to have proper self defence strategy when bullies attack them so that they can help themselves
It's true, kids can defend themselves by being confident, fighting back will only result to more problems and more people getting hurt. Avoiding the problem before it starts saves problems and also reporting to adults can also help. There is no need for kids to take matters into their hands by fighting back, sometimes it only takes self-confidence and speaking up
