Earthquake Drill with Elementary Pupils

Good day all! Today, let me share to you our activity today in our school. We have the School Earthquake Drill.

It is required in every public school to have a quarterly earthquake drill so that every pupils will be prepared when an earthquake hits our place. In our country, the Philippines, we are located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which means an area prone to earthquakes. Also, we have many active volcanoes both land and sea that is why our country frequently experiencing slow or fast shaking in the ground.

Every pupil were thought first in the classroom the basic Drop, Cover and Hold when they feel shaking in the ground. The school will make a loud earthquake alarm as a signal to get prepared. Everyone, children or adult, must be educated what to do when an earthquake hits because it is unpredictable and no machine or forecast can detect it. It will happen everywhere and might cause panic to everyone.

Supposed to be, our evacuation is at outside the school but today there is a road construction outside our school so we prefered the school gymnasium as the evacuation area just to role play the scenario. There are teachers assisted the area and manage every child's behavior to control the crowd. Teachers explained every move they make in the area for the children's awarenes when this truly happens.

The pupils did their part and tried their best to role play or reinact when the calamity hits. They cooperated and tried to behave in the middle of the crowd. The drill lasts for less than 30 minutes since we only have small population in our school. After the explaination in the school ground, we carefully go back in each classroom.

Truly, preparation is better to educate everyone about the coming calamity. I am sharing this to let my readers know that we have this kind of preparation.
