Homework to Social Studies Lesson || Environment Problems

I would be participating in this week episode of the social studies lesson as organised by @udyliciouz who organised beautiful lessons. I do enjoy these activities as they are very educative and enlightening to a listening audience.

What is an environmental problem?

Environmental problem is a major issue or challenge basically global challenge affecting the surrounding of man, they could be man-made and they could be natural crisis too.

They are emergency occurrences, hazardous to the living environment, posing threat to living things existing in such habitat.

There are various kinds of environmental problems, thy could be natural or man-made.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

Flooding:
Some regions most especially, the tropical rain forest regions are known to be flood prone regions, due to the heavy rainfall and torrents that graces those areas. Flooding could also be caused by overflowing of water banks in riverine areas too. It is dangerous as it claims lives and destroys properties too, destroying settlements and farmlands for agricultural development.

Avalanche:
This is a major natural hazard occuring in the arctic and glacial planes. It is an occurrence in which shows flush down from high planes or mountain lands at voracious velocity towards the city destroying properties and claiming lives during the course of action.

Hurricane:
These are heavy whirl wind which are common to the tropic regions too. These winds sweep across various planes in these areas destroying major lives and properties too. It remains a dangerous environmental hazard.

Volcanic Eruption:
This is a very dangerous environmental problem, which occurs in mountain lands and high planes. It occurs as the heat from the solar system heats up these mountains causing, rumbling, when pressure in these high planes get so hot, there is a sudden explosion of "molten magma red hot which flows down to the valleys destroying living habitat and mountain settlers habitat too. It is a dangerous natural environmental problem.

Pollution:
There are various kinds of pollution which are dangerous such as air, water, land pollution. This causes various health hazards to man as these polluted environment causes health of living things to be jeopardized. Placing risk of various chronic diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, pneumonia, typhoid, malaria.

Erosions:
This is the washing away of the earth crust due to frequent floodings and a host of other man made hazardous activities. It occurs mianly in settlements, these Erosions could also destroy vegetations causing risk of famine in the land. There are various such as gully erosion, water erosion, mans activities could cause this erosion thus causing damage to the environment.

Deforestation:
This is the environmental problem where trees and vast vegetation which aids the earth ecosystem chain. These vegetation aids protecting the ozone layer, preventing green house effect and global warming too. They preserve oxygen making it sufficient in the atmosphere. Therefore deforestation poses risk to global warming and other dangerous hazards such as earthquake, tornadoes and tsunamis.

What are the causes of environmental problems

• Inadequate refuse/ sewage disposal poses risk of water pollution/air pollution which could cause chronic infections and diseases to the health of man. These diseases could be life threatening diseases too.

• Deforestation, bush burning, over grazing could cause dangers too, as it could lead to less food produced due to infringement on the natural vegetation. It could cause famine on the long run if preventive measure are not in place.

• Oil Spillage on water bodies / water pollution could cause contamination of livestock in the water bodies and thus, loss of source of income for fish farmers and rendering most of them unemployed.

Effects of environmental problems to us and to our nation.

Environmental problema are bad to us as a people and to our nation

• Environmental problem reduces the productivity of a nation this reducing the work force capacity to be able to produce enough products for export for the country.

• These environmental problems causes diverging of funds which should be used for developing the nation to be a great nation rather to be channelled now towards treating chronic diseases and reduce the growth of such nation.

• Environmental problems poses risk to a nation as national migration occurs when condition such as floods, avalanches and earthquakes destroys a greater part of the nation, destroying properties of individual, thus Turing citizens to refugees in other countries they recede to.

Environmental problems reduces revenue generation as little exports reduces bilateral aggreements between countries and less effective economy in the world at large.

How can we tackle or solve environmental problems

Proper Legislation:
Laws should be out in place to combat the environmental problems, adequate refuse and sewage disposal too. These laws should contain acts to punish offenders of the law or impose fine to those that disobey the protection acts. There should also be a stop to deforestation and bush burning to enhance the earth and atmosphere health life to avoid less natural hazards.

Proper Refuse Disposal:
Proper Refuse and sewage recycling should be adopted. Developing countries like Nigeria has adopted the sewage refinery which recycles sewage for domestic consumption too. Proper refuse dispoal cannot be over emphasised as it prevents Environmental problem of deadly sicknesses due to dirty environment.

Non-biodegradable materials should be recycled such as plastics to prevent littering the environment with pet bottles posing danger of pollution too.
