It would have been very embarrassing although people may not have reacted but you would have felt it. I can remember when I was in a social gathering and farted unconsciously. To avoid embarrassment in such a place, I started creating sounds using my mouth to make it seem like I did it directly from my mouth. I thank God the smell was strong enough to diffuse into the nose of those seated. It was such an escaped embarrassment so to speak and I'm glad you've taken steps to avoid this from happening in public. I also participated.
