Surprise Through a Child's Eyes

✓ did you see a child that is surprised?

Nuha with Colourful Balloons

Of course. I went with my four year old niece Nuha to the Ras Mela of Kantaji Temple. From the beginning she was very excited for the colorful environment of the fair, the decorated shops, the busies crowd. Walking round the whole fair real excited, she wanted to see new things. We then stopped in front of a balloon stall. The balloons were red, blue, green, yellow and white, there were many balloons. Some had lights inside them, some were flowers, some even cartoon characters.

Then suddenly my niece stopped and looked at the balloons. She pulled my hand and told me after a few moments, that,'These balloons are so beautiful! My husband and I smiled at her, her amazement was so clear.

✓ what is the reason why he or she is surprised 😯 at the moment? Is it positive or negative surprise?

The colors and shapes of the balloons surprised her. She’d never seen such beautiful and different balloons. She loved it, especially the cow shaped balloon, which fascinated her the most. Children are really curious and they really like new things. She is very amazed. It was a completely positive moment. Everywhere around her seemed more beautiful with the joy on her face.

	Surprise in Her Eyes

That surprised face of hers made me really happy. Children are surprised in a way that brings peace to adults. Her little smile and sparkling eyes looked like the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. My realization was that the little happy moments are what the happiness in life really is.

I thought of how surprised I was when I first saw balloons at a fair. My niece had the same wonder on her face as I did. We do tend to forget the little joys of life as we grow up, I told myself, but children remind us how valuable they are.

✓ what can you do or what have you done in a situation where a child feels surprised either in a positive or negative way?

She was in astonishment then I asked her, "Which one you love most?" For a moment she stood, took in the colorful balloons, and pointed to a red one. I had bought it immediately and gave it to her.

She ran around the fair with the balloon in her hand she was so happy. Seeing her run with her small steps, made me even happier.

I get upset when I see a child crying or fearful. I try to him calm. I attempt to perturb them and direct their attention elsewhere so they can calm. Children are sensitive, we need to get them and listen to them.

Glimpses of the moments of joy or surprise children experience make our memories better. All these things they remind me that happiness in life is not living in fancy houses, not driving fancy cars, not having millions of dollars, not looking like celebrities. All these are little things which you never realize until you lose them.
