Honesty pays

Once upon a time, there lived a poor farmer in a small village named Mr. Andrew. Mr. Andrew had to cater for his family that consists of five members through hardship and enormous difficulty. To sustain his family, he thought he had to get another source of income to foot his bills.

One fateful day, has he walked through his field he noticed a golden purse filled with gold which might have dropped by a passer-by. At first he was afraid to pick it but later summoned courage and eventually did in order to prevent other marauders from picking it.

When he got home, he narrated to his wife on how he found the golden purse and his intention to look for the owner. But contrarily, his wife advised him to keep the golden purse and use the gold for their immediate use. Reminded him how poor they are.

He finally made up his mind to look for the person who had lost the purse. At the long run, he eventually found out the owner of the purse. He discovered that he was a well-known man in the village.

Few hours later, he went to the man’s house and gave him the purse. The man was so happy and commended him for been truthful but didn’t reward him. On getting home, his wife asked if the man rewarded him handsomely but the poor farmer responded, no. his wife was so furious and rebuked him for being foolish. But the poor man didn’t change his stand and kept reiterating that '’honesty pay"

Few months later, the rich man who lost the golden purse invited the poor farmer and his entire family to his house for a bouquet. On hearing this great news, the poor farmer man was so excited and he went to the man’s house with his entire family. The rich man gave them a warm welcome and entertained them with funfair. Thereafter rewarded the honesty poor farmer greatly for his kind gesture and made him to oversee some of his investment and properties.

The rich man commended the poor farmer and encourage others to emulate his good heart and be honest in all their doings because ‘’honesty pays!’’.

Moral lesson from the story….

• Be diligent because hard work is key to wealth

• Never follow wrong advice

• Be truthful always
