HOME FOR THE AGED VISIT | CARE FOR THE ELDERLY | ACT OF KINDNESS

Today i wanna share to you the day we visited Country View. Located at Tacunan, Davao City. It is a nursing home, a multi-residence housing facility intended for the elderly and people who either have no family or have been abandoned by their families. This home usually has a care-taker who monitors the residents of the home and a few helpers to take care of the residents.

The place is of course like home where the inmates get all the facilities for a routine living, like food, clothing, and shelter. All these necessities are well looked after but, the much-needed love, and care of loved ones is of course sadly missing;

This community service was held by our chairwoman Mrs. Placa the founder of "Group of Womens". Our organization aims to help and care to the one whose in need of love and affection. That's why we reached them and meet them personally.

As a member of the organization it was my first time visiting a nursing home. I've never been this kind of place before. And it is a life-changing experience. It is filled with emotions and sentiments.

When we entered the home, we were taken by surprise as there was more number of people than we had imagined. There was a common room where elderly men and women ranging from the ages of 60 till late 80s were seen.

They were ecstatic because somebody visits them. That's why we segregated ourselves and went to talk individually to everyone.

We spent our entire time intereacting and communicating with them. We entertained them played some games and let them them dance with us.

After a while we distributed some food and gave them a small token of appreciation. A token that let them know they are not forgotten. Though it's just a small thing the smile on their faces cannot be drawn. It's priceless.

Helping people always brings a good feeling to me. Seeing their face go from unhappy & lonely, to their face lighting up with happiness really makes me feel good. That’s why helping out with the elderly was such a good experience for me.

It taught me so much and I had the chance to learn what these people’s lives were like before they were placed in these homes, and what their lives were like when they were young.

It was sad for me to listen to how these people felt about where their own lives were at. I learned a lot about family and how they really are the most important thing in life, and how their absence can really affect a loved one.

I also learned that having friends and someone to talk to every once in a while is a really important thing to these elderly. I wish for the elderly’s sake that their families could visit them more often.

This visit was a fulfilling experience for me as I came back home with not only memories but also some valuable lessons.

I would like to thank my co-womens for this opportunity. I will be forever grateful that i joined this organization.
