Our present universe with it's complicated physical laws is approximately 13.8 billion years old and originally began according to most physicists, with the big bang - a sudden cosmic explosion from a point universe (singularity). However despite the success of the big bang model, there are still issues that still can't be resolved like the unification of all physical laws and most importantly the origin of life - the big bang theory does not tell how life came into be.
On the other hand however, a group of theoretical physicists working with microsoft are now working on a new kind of hypothesis first proposed by the philosopher Nick Bostrom in 2003 called the '' Simulation hypothesis ''. According to this hypothesis, the universe we live in is nothing more than an artificial simulation like the reality in video games, that is we(everything) are run by special programs and according to the researchers these programs unlike our conventional computer programs are self learning programs, and also that the universe might not have started with a big bang but instead started with simple interactions and laws that eventually got amplified to complex interactions and laws through learning.
One consequence of this self learning program universe is that the laws of physics changes with time, which also means that the physics of today could be different from the physics of tomorrow or yesterday. This could make it impossible to unify the known laws of physics. To better clarify this lets assume we want to investigate where a particular unknown program in a computer system came from, we simply track it from the fixed memory storage which indeed keeps record and the content in the storage always remains unless we delete it, however if we choose to track it from the CPU (Central Processing Unit) when in function, we might not be able to since operations done in the CPU changes with time and informations are constantly kept and removed for the purpose of carrying out other new operations. If we likened our universe to a gigantic computer system, then the universe with a dynamic program is the CPU and trying to find a unified theory is practically impossible, if a proposed theory is found to be valid today experimentally, then it might not be valid tomorrow.
This hypothesis could also explain how life came into be, which could be that during the time when the first set of living entities came into be, the laws of physics were adjusted due to some reasons and environmental factors. We should note that the mechanism responsible for how life came into be in the beginning is different from how it is now (reproduction). This same hypothesis could be responsible for biological evolution.

This however is only an hypothesis implying that it is yet to be confirmed experimentally, we would have to wait for that and if however it becomes invalid, there are other unproposed possibilities which could one day be explored and be valid, who knows.
