I invite you to challenge yourself and try your best to solve these 2 problems that I share with you in this post.
Problem 1 The Devil and the Peasant.
A peasant was walking very sad, thinking about his misfortune of not having enough money to pay off all his debts, when suddenly, nothing more and nothing less than the devil himself appeared in front of him.
Without the peasant having uttered a word, the devil went to him and said
"Well, if you want, I can help you."
The peasant was speechless, because he could not believe what was happening to him. The devil went on to say:
Cross the bridge over there and every time you do it I will double the amount of money you have.
The incredulous peasant asked him, are you serious what you are telling me? I Don't believe you.
I give you my word - assures the devil - but, there is one condition! You will give me 24 pesos every time you cross the bridge.
The peasant accepted the deal, totally, every time he crossed the bridge the money he had in his pocket would double.
The peasant passed the bridge once, he counted the money. He had twice as many. He gave the 24 pesos to the devil and crossed the bridge again. Again he had twice as much money as before. He counted 24 pesos, gave it to the devil, and crossed the bridge for the third time. The money again doubled. But it turned out that this time it was exactly 24 pesos that, according to the agreement ... he had to give to the Devil.
The peasant gave the devil all the money and was left without a single peso.
How much money did the peasant originally have?
Problem 2 Farmers and potatoes.
Three farmers came to an inn to eat and rest. They asked the owner to please prepare something to eat, but they were so tired that they fell asleep. The owner prepared steamed potatoes, but did not want to wake any of the farmers, so he left the pot with the cooked potatoes on the table and retired to rest. One of the farmers suddenly woke up and saw the pot with the food, as he did not want to wake up his friends, he decided to count the potatoes and eat his share and fell asleep again. Later another of the farmers woke up, thinking that he was the first to wake up, he decided to eat a third of the amount of potatoes that was in the pot on the table, later he went back to sleep. Then the third woke up; believing that he was the first to wake up he counted the potatoes left in the pot and ate a third of it.
At this moment, his friends woke up and saw that there were 8 potatoes left in the pot.
Find out how many potatoes the owner served at the table, how many did they eat, and how many more should each farmer eat, so that everyone would get equal parts.

Problem one
The peasant originally had only 21 pesos.
This because, for the first cross, the amount in his pocket multiplied by two, that is, (21×2)=42. He gave 24 pesos to the devil for the deal (42-24)=18
For the second cross, the 18 pesos that was left in his pocket also multiplied by two (18×2)=36, he gave 24 pesos to the devil again, remaining 12 pesos on him.
For the third cross, the 12 pesos left in his pocket also multiplied by two (12×2)=24, but because of the deal, he gave all the 24 pesos to the devil. He finally had nothing left on him again.
Problem two
The inn owner served them a total of 27 potatoes.
The first who woke ate 1/3 of the 27, that is 9, leaving 18 of them for his/her friends.
The second who woke up also ate 1/3 of the remaining 18, that is 6, leaving 12 for his/her friends.
The third person who woke also ate 1/3 of the remaining 12 that is 4, leaving 8 for his/her friends.
In total, they ate 19 potatoes leaving 8
For them to have eaten equally, each person was supposed to eat 9 potatoes.

1st farmer = 0 potatoes
2nd farmer= 3 potatoes

The suppose to eat 9 each so
Famer 1 will eat nothing =0
Farmer 2 eat 6 out of 9 (9-6)=3
Farmer 3 eats 4 out of 9 (9-4)=5

Before crossing the bridge for 3rd time - 12 pesos
That means he had 24+ 12 after he crossed the bridge for 2nd time
Before crossing the bridge for 2nd time - 18 pesos
That means he had 18+24after he crossed the bridge for the 1st time
So he had 21 pesos originally
2nd question
3rd farmer ate 1/3 from the left potatoes, that means 8=2/3 So the 3rd farmer ate only 4 potatoes
That means 2nd farmer left 12 potatoes and he ate 1/3 left potatoes and that means 12=2/3 so 2nd farmer ate 6 potatoes. That says first farmer left 18 potatoes which is again equal to 2/3
That means 1st farmer ate 9 potatoes.
So there was 27 potatoes at the beginning 1st ate 9 and he can't eat any more. The 2nd farmer ate 6 so he can have 3more potatoes. The 3rd farmer ate 4 potatoes so he can eat 5more...

Now he crossed the bridge for third time. The money gets double and becomes (12X2) or 24 peso. He had to give the all to devil and left with no money.
Moral : Never fall in trap of the devil.
Qus 2 : The inn owner initially served 27 boiled potatoes. Each of the farmers were supposed to eat 9.
The first farmer found 27. Eaten (27÷3) or 9 and left (27-9) or 18. The second farmer found 18, eaten (18÷3) or 6 and left (18-6) or 12. The third farmer found 12, eaten (12÷3) or 4 and left (12-4) or 8. This is what they found when all are awake.
As they are supposed to eat 9 potatoes each, the second farmer (who had 6 potatoes earlier) can eat (9-6) or 3 out of the remaining 8 and the third farmer (who just had 4 potatoes) can eat (9-4) or 5 out of the 8 potatoes. The first farmer already eaten 9. However, they can now make a potato crush with remaining 8 potatoes, order a drink and have a party.
Moral : Always have your food together with your friends.
