STEM Diary Game | 06-02-2022 | Using hydraulic simulator to build hydraulic circuit
Good afternoon fellow steemians. I am happy to share with you the training I had on Hydraulic circuit using hydraulic circuit simulator.
Hydraulic system is one of the courses I offer at my work place,the course is a bit difficult but with good concept, it is very easy. Hydraulic is an engineering science that deals with the application of a force to moving or static liquids . Hydraulics are used in various types of equipment that we use or see daily. The most common examples are Car brake systems, Tipper trucks , Earth moving equipment , mobile crane e.t.c all of these has some of hydraulic system that makes work easier.
In order to be formidable or have strong foundation for the course , we were first introduced to the graphic symbols for hydraulic components. Without knowing these symbols, one may find it difficult to read any Hydraulic circuit or interpret it. I learned how to draw most of these symbols. They are on my finger tips. Some of these symbols are Reservoir, Pump, Pressure relief valve , pressure reducing valve, sequence valve , directional control valve, actuator , oil filter , hydraulic line with working pressure and many more.
Drawing of some symbols is on my finger tip because of the training I was taken through. The training became more interested when we were able to make the symbol drawing part of us. The unrest zeal to learn more never ceased. We spent barely 5 days to learn most of the theoretical aspect, afterwards we go to the workshop to have a feel of the praticals. The first week of the practice session was used for identification of symbols of hydraulic components on the hydraulic simulator. Though we faced challenges with the symbols identification, we were able to overcome it with time.
Hydraulic oil is very harmful and detrimental to the environment whenever there is spillage. It can also cause skin rashes when it comes into contact with the skin. Knowing of all these effect it comes with, my colleagues and I were fully dressed with PPEs ( Safety boot, helmet, glass). Hydraulic system operates at very high pressures and any oil leak will cause oil to be forced from the system in a fine spray that travels through the air at high speed hence there is the need to depressurized the system before working on it .
On the third day of the practical, circuit diagram were given to us to build. I was able to build the circuit within 20 minutes with an ease. The trainer actuated the lever and cylinder rod were able to extend and retracted . The trainer was happy and applauded me . He said congrats, you did well .
The ladies among us were too good., each and everyone were able to build the circuit using the hydraulic circuit simulator. We wished the training never end.
