Steemit Engagement Challenge Week # 4 | Propose A New Steemit Project

Since my return to the Steemit platform I have been actively involved in the platform by;

  • Writing articles
  • Reading and supporting of fellow Steemians posts
  • Curating and advising

I must have read way over 1,000 articles during the last 4 months. I have seen and read some good quality article and I’ve often wondered how many of these articles are actually being read.

Of particular interest to me are those articles who can help other Steemians.

My suggestions therefor for a new project would be to add a “Notice board or Bulletin board” to Steemit where these kind of articles can be pinned for all to see.

image.png

What is a notice board?

NoticeIt is information which needs the attention of many
Board - A place where the notices or information can be posted

What is a bulletin board?

BulletinIt is a short report or information of what is happening
Board - A place where the notices or information can be posted

Whatever you want to call it a notice board, a bulletin board, a pin board it doesn’t matter.
Of importance is that they are there to post public messages and is what I am looking for and I am not referring to a notice board for a specific community but a notice board in general where it is visible to everybody.

image.png

The history behind notice or bulletin boards

The YearThe Story
1801 –The first black board was used
1801 –The first black board was used
1925 –The first cork board for pinned messages
1976 –In-corporate in the information age – first public dial up board
2010 –Pinterest was launched as a personal bulletin board
2022 –Steemit introduced a notice board?

Why a notice or bulletin board

  • With the ever changes in the IT world new ideas will emerged all the time. This is an effective way to display important messages
  • The scope of users can for sure be extended
  • Valuable information will not get lost in the system
  • Valuable information will be available immediately
  • The standard of communication will be improved
  • Recognition to great articles
  • The data can be used for analytics purposes

There are various factors which should be kept in mind when the notice board is designed;

  1. It must be visually appealing
  2. It must be well organized
  3. It must be accessible and
  4. It must be easy to engage with

I am not a developer and I also don’t know the infrastructure of Steemit therefor it is best for me to leave the possibilities for implementation to them.

This is then also how it works in our business. My husband is a developer and I am an operator. I tell him what I want and it is up to him to make it work. So developers, this one is for you. :-)

For my own curiosity I had a look at what is currently available just to get the look and feel;

In conclusion:

I do believe that there is reason to brainstorm this idea further. By adding a notice board or bulletin board Steemian can only benefit from it as long as notices will be immediately available, in the correct categories and includes an archive for historical posts.

The only real challenges for me are the implementation and the management thereof.

I hope that I have planted a seed or two...

My suggestions therefor for a new project would be to add a “Notice board or Bulletin board”

It's a creative idea, I like it. But to maintain this would be a tough job as there are many people posting and creating quality content.

The steemit usually pinned the important posts but just for the brainstorming, I'm telling that we can also make a drop-down options of different categories of posts.

Like learn with steem, tutorials, recipes, technology, cryptocurrencies, steemit related posts, contest etc even the expired posts in it because through tags the expired post vanishes.

Thank you for taking part and penning down a creative idea. Best of luck 👍

Thank you for the feedback.
I’m sure that with further brainstorming there might just be an idea popping up on how to managed something like this 😊

A bulletin board is an interesting suggestion.

We see only the latest announcements by @steemitblog in the above Announcement section. If not a proper bulletin board, all-important posts could be categorized and added in the Useful Links section.

@the-gorilla, what do you think about this suggestion?

Awh it will be great!
I already know what my gorilla friend is going to say… “bullsh*t buffles brain” 😊

"bullsh*t baffles bulletin board brain"? 🤪

Adding links into that left-hand section from a coding point of view should be easy. The Steemit developers will be able to update it very easily (as they have done with the "Steemit Engagement Challenge - Season 1 - Week 4" update).

The difficulty is deciding what's "important". And how long it's important for. I don't know if it's just me - the "Newcomers Guide" must have so many comments now that the page crashes my browser so never loads.

I've thought for a little while that a consolidated list of links ranging from how to sign up, how to invest, etc. is essential if we want to onboard new users and grow the platform. All I can think of are difficulties - different exchanges in different countries, etc. and languages... all possible to overcome but a huge effort and a lot of dedication will be required to achieve it. In my research some time ago, I found a Chinese user who'd written a huge database of guides for Steemit (in Chinese)... it took some time for me to find the link but here it is - https://bookdown.org/baydap/steemh/aacontributors.html

Something like this is probably required 🙂

To start, you put a smile on my face. I don’t think we will, for years to come, forget the bullsh*t thing 😊

In answer to your reply. I’m so glad that you had to search for the Chinese post as that is exactly my point, posts gets lost.

Secondly should it be able to do getting something goiing would it not be possible to blog users to reply on these posts? Afterall they are informative posts. That will stop the problem of too many replies.

Lastly, the biggest problem problem I can see is the selection. Would it not be able to write a crawler to preselect posts? From there it can go over to a curation team.

Sorry for all the questions. I must be female after all 😊

We'll always have Bullsh*t Baffles Brain. The 3 B's. Which perhaps amusingly, was the name of the first pub that I regularly drank in 🙂

I’m so glad that you had to search for the Chinese post as that is exactly my point, posts gets lost.

I must also have not thought that it was important enough to bookmark 😉

Secondly should it be able to do getting something going would it not be possible to blog users to reply on these posts? Afterall they are informative posts. That will stop the problem of too many replies.

I have seen something in the API which suggests that you can turn off comments to your post so that people can't reply. I've never seen it in action to know whether it's possible or not though.

One thing that's just dawned on me in thinking about this is why there isn't more "brochureware". There's an FAQs page hidden away in the top right... oh... and a "Welcome" page. I've never noticed that before.

Perhaps this should be the next big contest. Create an index of what would be useful, and get the community to write it so that it's then copied into a load of brochureware to create the 5 B's.

This can work! I'm sure there are some hidden talents on Steemit who does this kind of thing on a daily basis.
As for myself, I will pass on it.

Luckily my name starts with a "P" and not "B". (•ิ‿•ิ)
Have a great evening!

As for myself, I will pass on it.

Me too 🙂 It took me absolutely ages to review all of the entries to that "steemit reviews" contest!

Haha! It was my exact words to my husband! I told him that I am so glad that I don't have to review all the suggestions and that I feel sorry for you as it looks like you are the one who is the target.
My friend, only 3 more days to go! ☕☕☕

It will be a great thing if it is done. But what if such posts becomes too many, will they all be included? The hashtags are already great but the steemit team will then determine which to include in the useful links section when the links becomes too much. The reason is because ones it is approved that useful links can be added to a second, almost every user will like to produce something like that. But lest see what others think

It will be wonderful if everyone will want to write these kind of articles. Just imagine how the performance and quality of posts will improve 😊 We will all be learning.

You have a great point in where do you stop if the links are getting too many. Maybe a rating system like the crypto guys are doing? Top 10 posts then get listed.

The last thing I want to do is to create extra work but if I xan help others in a positive manner I will raise my hand and say I will help.

Hello @patjewell, you have brought up a good idea that should be considered. Yes there are very important post that may not be seen easily. Having a bullet board is a good way to go. It would really improve they way necessary articles should be viewed by the general users.

Thank you for reading and supporting. I do believe that somewhere and somehow we wiil be helped by somebody regarding this suggestion 🤞🏻

Hopefully, it will be looked into. It's an awesome idea 😊😊.

Thanks for sharing

Hola @patjewell

Thank you for engaging with my post and for supporting my idea.
I know it is not an easy suggestion and will need a lot of thinking but I do believe it can help us to grow and to be made alert of important happenings

Thanks for this wonderful suggestions @patjewell. I believe that the learnwithsteem tag is very helpful. Unless the steemitblog will gather such links and make weekly update of the ones published within the week

Thank you for your reply my friend.
Unfortunately the learwithsteem tag is open for so many topics.
I would love to see items which alert us of happenings and which will help us to grow personally with Steem and Steemit at a glance.
For instance those YouTube educational videos you’ve made for the Africa SteemWomenClub.
I would love for more Steemians to see them and not just for the group.
Just my two cents 😊

The is no doubt the best thing I have come across on steemit today...your idea is just fabulous ma❤️💯

I actually agree with you on this, the pin board or bulletin board is a very good idea and an initiative that can and should be incorporated into steemit.

Wish you the best in this contest👍

Thank you for your engagement and your support.
So often when I am asked for help from a Steemian I know I’ve read a great article which can help the person to write the perfect article but I cannot remember who wrote it or where to find it.
Thank you for your good wish!

Oh my gosh!
She's a genius and she's got brilliant ideas as always.

I will call it notice board because it should be noticed by everyone. Thanks for adding the post links as I'm just read through them and indeed they're very educative.

Good luck!!

Thank you for visiting and engaging with my post.
It is great that you could read the posts I’ve included and that you could learn from them.
If I was in court this morning I would have said “ I rest my case”
I do know that I will be no easy task for the developers to put something like this together.
Hopefully there will be another alternative they can come up with 🤞🏻

I agree with you dear if there is place where we can see all important posts commonly despite what community people have joined then that would be a great implementation.

Fingers cross that the developers can come up with something. My hubby believes it will be very difficult but there is always a bright spark with a great idea.
Thank you for engaging with my post and supporting the idea.

Wow,tis is truly a lovely idea. To be able to add a notice board on Steemit, this will be great especially to Steemians who don't know how to navigate through Steemit. It is going to be great to have such Here.

Thank you for this prolific idea that you have suggested.

Thank you for reading my post and for your engagement.
It will be great if the developers can get a solution for us.
I can however see that it is not going to be an easy task.

A well detail written project you have written here my dear friend. Indeed it is a good one to have such a notice body where all this information can be access with just a click.

Thank you for your kind words. It will be great to have something like a notice board or even an alert board.
I'm sure it will help many of us.
