Greetings everyone, Here I am again with my another blog. I didn't write from so many days so its my blog for you all I want to share my grandparents story with you all.

I have some wonderful stories in my family- my nana(grand father) and nani’s(grandmother) being the most famous. My nana (Syed asad) first saw my nani (noorussabah) when she came to visit his sister. They locked eyes and that’s where their story started.

It was 1960s in Karachi (Pakistan's city)and love marriages, especially in their circle, were not common. They were married in 1961. They were the most popular couple at that time among their peers. My nani wanted to see the world and live an exciting life. He promised her he’d give her the life she wanted, which was really difficult back then, especially because they weren’t rich.

She worked as a teacher at Happy Home (under mrs Ali) and my grandfather Started looking for a good job. he found a job and worked his way up. They traveled the world (Italy, Egypt, England, etc etc) and settled in the US since the university here hired my nani. He supported her career as a microbiologist and was literally like her biggest fan.

One day on one of his business trips, him and his colleagues were watching boat races. There was a malfunction and one the masts on the boat swung and knocked my grandfather into the water.

His colleagues jumped in and saved him. When they brought him up he was unconscious. He was in long coma but woke up and survived. He wasn’t the same after and lost his job. But still they decided to start a radio program called soni dharti that was massively popular in Chicago and the US. Because of that program they met politicians, musicians, and there was always some well renowned writer or poet coming to meet them. They even made me and my sister go on to recite urdu poems 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I was not very good at it but still they instilled the love of Urdu language and Urdu poetry in me because of that. However, after that accident my nana started deteriorating.

He suffered with Lewy body dementia and spent his last years in a rehab facility. He didn’t recognize us at times or wouldn’t talk - but he would always manage to ask about my grandmother.

He called her “noori” - he would say “noori kahan hai, kb ae gi.” He would sing to her even in that stage and tell her he loved her. My grandmother would visit him everyday until his death this February. When I walked into her room recently, she was sleeping and had his photos lying on the pillow next her while she held it tight.

These are some of their memorable black and white pictures together.
