What is meditation and why do we need it?

Meditation is understood as a set of ancient Indian mental exercises that involve the technique of relaxing the mind and freeing oneself from unnecessary thoughts. Many underestimate this practice, believing that static sitting and deepening into oneself does not give anything. But this delusion is based on nothing. Meditation and relaxation exercises are included in yoga complexes and help to strengthen the spirit and body no less than physical activity.

What is its use for modern man? Those who practice meditation notice many positive changes, including:
• Decreased stress hormones;
• Strengthening immunity;
• Normalization of pressure;
• Reduction of anxiety, fears;
• Increasing concentration of attention;
• Growth in self-confidence;
• Improving control over emotions;
• Feeling of vigor in the body.

Meditation is observation of yourself and your thoughts. This is a conscious experience of them, the ability to separate oneself from the emotional component and not to identify with one's thoughts. It helps to relax, focus, improve concentration and attention, relax the nervous system, allow you to calm down and focus.
Meditation for beginners helps to get rid of extraneous thoughts. It's not easy, but the skill will come gradually. You will learn to meditate even in noisy places.
In order for a beginner to succeed, it is advisable to follow these recommendations:
• Choose a comfortable position. It doesn't have to be the lotus position. Over time, you will learn to meditate in any position.
• The optimal meditation time for beginners is 3 to 5 minutes. Then you can increase to 15-20 minutes.
• If you are interrupted, always return to the exercise.
• Disconnect from thoughts. This is what meditation for beginners suggests in the early stages, and at first it seems difficult.
• Sit on a mat and, if possible, isolate your ears from extraneous noise, and your eyes from extraneous light.
• Watch your breath. With each inhalation and exhalation, you get rid of unnecessary thoughts. The breathing technique is the most difficult after the practice of detachment. But with regular exercise, it will be easier for you every time.
• Repeat mantras. They also help to focus and let go of unnecessary thoughts.
• Use special music and incense.
With daily practice in 15-20 minutes, you will feel positive changes in your mind. By learning to drive away unnecessary thoughts, you will become less anxious and make your mind calmer.
There are many practices aimed at something specific - health, wish fulfillment, and even attracting love. But the most important thing is finding peace and healing of the soul and body.
Doctors note the following positive changes in the health of those who meditate regularly:
• The work of the cardiovascular system is stabilized;
• The level of endorphin rises, starting beneficial processes in the body. In this way, you can even lose weight;
• Sleep improves;
• Headaches and muscle pains disappear;
The positive impact of spiritual practices on human health has been confirmed by clinical studies. So, for example, a CT scan of the brain fixes an improvement in its condition in those who meditate regularly. Therefore, today these techniques are successfully used in the treatment of such serious diseases as Alzheimer's disease, severe migraines and various pains.
