Steem Fiction Contest #3 : My Preference

in SteemFictionlast year (edited)

This was your story:

Terence's mind was also getting strange from the inside. Leaving Veenu and going back to duty, his life was threatened just thinking about it, but duty is duty. He was a paracommando, so there was an additional responsibility on his shoulders.

He was trying to keep Veenu happy so he could spend these few days with her in love and peace, but he was seeing that Veenu's eyes were filled with tears time and again. She kept silently wiping her tears, but Terence could understand her feelings.

Ten of the fifteen days of his leave had already passed. Terrence remembered how he thought about Veenu day in and day out during duty, and even after coming here, he could not sleep properly.

He stayed awake all night, looking at Veenu and stroking her hair. He didn't know how many months after going back from here he would not be able to see her again or if he would ever be able to see her or not.

There was pandemonium in his heart as he felt he would become the target of a bullet in the forest in the next search operation.

He silently wiped his eyes. He was a commando, but he was also a husband, and he loved his wife more than himself.

I continue from here-

Terence had come home after seven and a half months, though only for a few days. He had been posted on the borders of an enemy country infested with terrorists. For months he did not sit peacefully even for a single day. No one knew when an emergency would arise, so he and his unit were always on alert.

Terence was upset that he would have to leave Veenu and go back to duty, but duty was duty, and then he was a para commando with an additional responsibility on his shoulders.

He was trying to make Veenu happy so that he could spend a few days with her in love and peace, but he could see tears in Veenu's eyes that she would silently wipe.

Hey, what are you doing?" Veenu asked, watching Terence in the kitchen.

"I am making special dishes for you," Terence replied, as he was chopping onions and tomatoes.

Veenu saw Terence looking so happy while working in the kitchen. Veenu thought, These hands always carry grenades and a gun, and he is cooking food for her.

May these moments of happiness, peace, and laughter stop here and stay forever. Why do some people not want to live in peace? Why do they fight over borders?

Terence's holidays were over, and it was time for him to go back to duty. Veenu thought the moments of the meeting were getting fewer with each passing moment. Every time Terence's phone rang, Veenu felt tense, and her heart would thump with apprehension.

Terence was going back tonight. At night, when the driver took out of the car to drop Terence off at the bus stand, Veenu could not control herself. She sobbed, hugged Terence tight, "Don't leave me."

"Stupid! You always give me courage. If you become weak like this, what will happen to me?" Terence said, "Trust your commandos. Your love is with me."

Tears were flowing from Veenu's eyes. "Veenu, leave your lip prints on it." Terence put his mobile phone in front of Veenu's face. Veenu put her lips on the cover of the mobile. Her red lips left their mark on the white cover.

"Now for the next few months, this memory will remain with me until I meet you next," Terence smiled.

Before boarding the bus, Terence hugged Veenu and said, "Take care of yourself and don't cry at all; otherwise, it will be very difficult for me to perform my duty there."

"Don't worry about me, but take care of yourself and come back soon." Veenu was crying. Terence picked up the bag, took one last look at Veenu, hugged her, turned quickly, and that was it.

A soldier's wife knew what his task was, but once, when Terence did not call her for two days, on the third day, at 2.30, she received a call from Terence saying that he did not even eat food for two days while chasing terrorists in the forests. Now he was eating canned food, which he and his unit had heated on the wood collected from the jungle.

He said, "There was peace now, but for how many hours or what will happen next, it was hard to say." Terrence disconnected the phone and looked at Veenu's lips printed on its cover. He put his lips on them, smiled, and closed his eyes.
