- The angel used to take the form of a man for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and address him and then he (peace be upon him) would remember what he said. In this case, sometimes the Companions also saw the angel.
Revelation used to come to him like the tinkling of a bell. This was the most severe form of revelation. In this case, the angel would meet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and revelation would come, so even in the harsh winter, sweat would break out from the forehead of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was riding a camel, it would sit on the ground. Once the revelation came that the thigh of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was on the thigh of Zayd bin Thabit (RA).
You used to see the angel in his original and born form and in that state he used to make revelations to you, according to the will of Allah Ta'ala. This situation happened to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) twice, which Allah Almighty has mentioned in Surah Najam.
The revelation that Allah the Exalted revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding the obligation of prayer on the night of Ascension, etc., when he was above the heavens.
Without the help of an angel, Allah Ta'ala spoke to him directly in hijab, just like Allah Ta'ala spoke to Moses (Alaihis Salam).
This form of revelation for Musa (peace be upon him) is definitely proven by the Qur'anic text. But the proof for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is in the Hadith of the Ascension (instead of the Qur'an).
Some people have also added an eighth figure. That is, Allah Ta'ala should talk face to face without hijab.
But this is a situation about which there has been disagreement from the Salaf to the Khalaf.
