It’s Short But Complicated

Time travel is a popular topic in fiction, whether in written form (novels or short stories) or visual media (films, images, comics). The idea of traveling back to the past or heading into the future is indeed intriguing, especially considering the effects it could have on historical events. The world would certainly be very different today if, for example, Hitler had never invaded Poland.

But the invasion on September 1st, 1939, which forced Poland's allies, Britain and France, to declare war on Germany two days later, was also something that can be said to have been triggered by other events, particularly the Treaty of Versailles, which was signed on June 28th, 1919, by the Allied and associated powers and by Germany in the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles and went into effect on January 10th, 1920 in the end of World War 1. The Treaty was seen by some Germans at the time as the primary cause of political and economic instability in the country. But, then again, what events lead to the Treaty? The answers seem to lead to another question and the labyrinth seems to not have an end.

If I Could Go Back in Time, Like in the Movie Looper

k4bsecs19w6-ttc-bag.png
My concept of time-travel, influenced by various sources on the internet. Created With Adobe Photoshop 2021.

After reading about the writing contest in the Knack4Buzz Community, I found myself drifting into thoughts of the past. Missed moments, decisions I made, and the consequences of every step I took. Essentially, I believe every normal person must have some regrets in their life. If they could, they would want to correct those regrets, such as appreciating time with loved ones more or being braver, and so on.

That daydream turned a bit wild: if I could go back in time, what would I do differently? This thought then led me to the world of films, particularly one of my favorite films, Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis. So, last night, I watched the old time travel-themed film again.

The trailer, embedded from YouTube.

Let me share a few facts about Looper. Directed by Rian Johnson and produced by TriStar Pictures and severall other production companies, the film had a limited release at the Toronto International Film Festival between September 6 and 16, before its official public release on September 28, 2012, and was distributed by TriStar Pictures.

In Looper, we are introduced to a world where time travel is a brutal reality. There, hitmen known as "loopers" are tasked with killing targets sent from the future. Imagine, they are paid to erase someone's life who hasn’t even happened yet! Major conflict arises when one of the loopers, Joe, has to kill his future self. This is where things get complicated—at the intersection of what happens and what could be.

Watching Looper, I couldn’t help but feel connected to the concept that every action we take today can shape or destroy our own future. Like Joe, I often wrestle with myself, with different versions of me emerging from decisions I try to address. Perhaps not in a literal sense like Joe, but more in terms of mental and emotional struggles about who I was, who I am now, and who I might become.

If only I could go back in time, I would confront my younger self and say, "You could do things better." I would remind him to be braver, more confident, and not to be so afraid of failure. I want to tell him that all those fears are just shadows that need not be heeded, because in every failure, there is a valuable lesson.

That the regret of things we did not do is far greater compared to the regret of things we did do. About the potential love we let slip away due to fear, which might have been the true love we were searching for. The problem with this kind of thinking is that we never really know what’s best until everything is proven and lived through.

But as Looper shows, changing the past isn’t an easy solution. Every change we make could have unforeseen consequences, what if the changes I made ended up making my future worse? What if, in my attempt to fix something, I ended up destroying something else of great value?

In the end, perhaps we are all loopers in our own lives. We can’t really go back and fix the past, but we can learn from every decision we make. The past, with all its good and bad, is part of who we are. Every wound, every victory, and every regret are threads that weaves the fabric of our lives.

Talk Like One Wise Person

So, even though I often fantasize about going back in time, like Joe in Looper, I realize that the most important thing is not how to change the past, but how we live in the present with all our heart. Because in the end, our future is a reflection of what we do today. Maybe that’s the biggest lesson I can take from the film: not about going back and changing the past, but about living life with courage, responsibility, and genuine love for ourselves and those around us.

The Daydreamer’s Back! And He Tags Someone Powerful, Too!

But if that were truly possible, I’d be a very rich person right now. Not to mention all the sports betting and whatnot, I’d just buy as much Bitcoin as I could when it had no value. And of course, I’d have far more SP than @steemcurator01 possess right now. But then again, dreaming costs nothing and requires no energy, why put limits on it?

Intermezzo: Time Travel Movies Worth Watching

There are many time travel movies worth watching. Here I tell you 3 of the those I like the most. They span the mix of various genres, including comedy, psychology, thriller and action. And pf course all of them definitely have a core of science fiction.

ThumbsNotes

Back to the Future (1985) - One of the most iconic time travel films, where Marty McFly (portrayed by Michael J. Fox), a teenager, is accidentally sent back in time using a time machine shaped like a DeLorean car created by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). The film is famous for its blend of action, comedy, and sci-fi. The success of this film led to the production of two sequels: Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Back to the Future Part III (1990), both of which also achieved tremendous success. Together, these three films form one of the most famous and acclaimed trilogies and franchises in the science fiction and comedy genres.

The Terminator (1984) is a science fiction film directed by James Cameron. The film tells the story of a cyborg (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent from the future to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), a woman who will give birth to a child who will become the leader of the human resistance against the machines. The film is known for its intense action and innovative concepts about machines and artificial intelligence. This film has a loyal fan base, resulting in no fewer than 5 sequels to date, with the latest being Terminator: Dark Fate, released in 2019. The success of this franchise even led to a television series titled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which aired from 2008 to 2009. The series expanded on the storyline from the Terminator films and delved deeper into the lives of Sarah and John after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
predestination.jpg

Predestination (2014) is a science fiction and thriller film directed by Michael and Peter Spierig. The film tells the story of a time-traveling agent (played by Ethan Hawke) who works for a secret organization tasked with preventing crimes before they happen. In his final mission, he must catch a terrorist known as "The Fizzle Bomber." During his mision, the agent meets a mysterious man who tells the story of his life, full of extraordinary twists and turns. This story reveals shocking secrets about the characters' identities and how they are connected through time travel. One of the movies that I will re-watch now and then, I love its complex plot and unexpected twists, viewers will be forced to rethink about identity and fate. The idea of inevitable time loops is brilliant.

Which one have you seen? Or, do you have any movies suggestion to watch?

Sometimes it happens that we go to a location or just sit around and suddenly events unfold before us that feel like they've happened before. It feels like we've already experienced it, but in reality, it hasn't happened before... You might find this hard to understand. Have you ever read about Hamzaad (Twin)? It's a spiritual topic related to the soul. It's beyond the bounds of time and space. While there's no scientific proof yet, such events are said to fall under the category of 'Time Travel'. And I've read in spiritual books that if one can control their Hamzaad, they can accomplish many tasks that are physically impossible for us.

But this is not as easy as catching a bird.;-))

Some call it deja vu, or is it a total different thing?

There's a good movie about this theme from 2006, called Deja Vu, Starring Denzel Washington.
