Titans sign well established, veteran kicker Stephen Gostkowski
I'm just as surprised as you are that I feel the urge to write about the Titans signing a new kicker. But honestly the Titans kicking game was just truly that terrible last year.
The Titans had FOUR different kickers on the roster last season. Three of them attempted field goals and totaled an atrocious 8/18 on attempts throughout the entire 2019 season. The Titans were seriously reluctant to even send the field goal team out. I'm not an expert on the NFL's kicking stats or averages, but I know that attempting only 18 field goals in an entire season is a pretty low number.
I remember one particular heartbreaking loss the Titans had to the Bills last year. It was a defensive battle that ended in a final score of 14-7. Wanna know the Titans kicking stats on that day? A whopping 0/4. 12 potential points, but they got zero. Fun fact: 12 is a higher number, than the 7 the Titans lost by in that game LOL. The kicking game of the Titans was so bad last year.
It's huge that the Titans got a really well established kicker in veteran Stephen Gostkowski. Hopefully that can lead to more consistent points on the board. It can help put a lot less pressure on the entire team I hope.
The only sketchy thing about the deal is that Gostkowski is coming off of an injury, as a result he only played in four games in 2019.
The Titans know how bad an injured kicker can be for a squad. The Titans' former super reliable kicker Ryan Succop was injured most of last season and could barely make anything more than an extra point when he was even on the field.
I hope Gostkowski can come on the roster with a healthy leg and have the kind of production he had when he was a New England Patriot.
Gostkowski really did have a solid career in his 14 years as a Patriot.
Here are a few of his accomplishments
- 3x Super Bowl Champion
- 4x Pro Bowler
- 3x All-Pro (Two 1st Team, One 2nd Team)
- A member of the 2010's All-Decade Team!!!!
As a Titans fan I am super happy and satisfied with this signing!
What do you guys think of this signing? You agree that having a good kicker is a must have for teams?
