The Lockdown

In the notorious 2020, my English teacher gave our class an assignment to write a poem about our experiences during the COVID-19 lockdown. That was the first ever poem that I had written in English, and that was when I first realized that I actually loved writing poetry. Enjoy!

Coronavirus genome music playing in the background.
How beautiful is its randomlike sound,
Capable of creating a deadly wound!
We are characters in a neverending story,
Our lives are plot lines.

Cold wind is whistling in my ears.
Or is that the horrible breath of Death?
This plot twist could create the future of my fears.
Democracy, my friends, to me it's so dear!

Leaves of the birch in front of the window are yellow
As if the time was going through autumn back to the summer mellow.
Grass explodes in sunny dandelion dots
As the morning air pulsates in the seagull bellow.

I am at home, tied up in knots.
Spent in front of a computer, my time rots.
Restful and stressful - it's all now the same.
My best friend texts me that this is a game.
Neverending Saturdays. If only I had the time to be bored!
Then I would love the time that others abhor.

Almost two months passed in a limited world.
Nothing inside me changes, I watch my thoughts whirl
Like apple blossoms on a windy day of May.
Now's the time. I'll grasp the chance, I'll find my way,
Breaking through as if I were an x-ray.
