The Longest Suspension bridge in Sri-Lanka..

Hello friends!
It's 31st December today.So today I'm going to post my last article for this year.It's on the longest suspension bridge in Sri-Lanka.

Suspension Bridge,

A bridge in which the weight of bottom is supported and hold by numbers of heavy and powerfull cables is called as suspension bridge.In these type of bridges there is no support for the middle part.

The Ruwanwella Suspension bridge

These bridges are normally narrow bridges that run over a river.In the past these bridges are made by using ropes.We can see those kind of bridges in Mahiyangana Soraborawewa,Maapaakanda bridge and many more.Nowdays these bridges are made by using steel cables.Crossing through these kind of bridges gives us an adventurous experience.I can remember when I was in Grade six I got a chance to go through Mahiyangana Soraborawewa suspension bridge.It was made by ropes and woods.It was an experience that I will never forget.

I think that you all know that Ruwanwella was a very popular village during royal periods of kotte and seethawaka.The Ruwanwella bridge runs over Kelani river.This is identified as the longest suspension bridge in Sri-Lanka.

If you are travelling through Nittabuwa just as you pass the bridge over Gurugoda oya take a turn to right side.As you drive 200m ahead you an see a car park.So the bridge lies at the car park entrance it self.

This bridge located at the middle of Gurugoda oya and Kelani river.The Gurugoda oya originates from Gampola mountains and Kelani river gets originates from Shri-paadha mountains.

The records marked as the bridge is 550 feet long.The bridge is 40 feets above the river.This bridge connects Kurupenna,Nikawalamulla andalso Ruwanwella.This bridge was built in 2005 and 15 years old.Andalso it is still in good condition.
