The day has been established to encourage dog ownership of all breeds and also to enhance the knowledge about dog adoption. Colleen Paige created this day in 2004 who is a Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate.

There are so many dogs live out there in rescue centres or in the streets who are seeking love and affection. It doesn't matter whether they are pure or mixed breed. Every puppy in this world should be admired. They always spread positive vibes around us and teach us how to love unconditionally.

We cannot even imagine their love for us. How does a dog love us this much? They never think of hurting us and never leave us even on our bad days. They expect nothing but love from us. This one day is not enough to celebrate these cute little friends.
