Steem Sri Lanka Year-End Contest | Looking Back at 2021

What a nice idea to make us look back on our 2021, it is an opportunity to be grateful for what we have received and to reinforce what we have learned. Thanks to the Steem Sri Lanka community for this initiative.

2020 was characterized by the paralysis of almost all activities in my country due to the pandemic, we spent a full year at home, keeping us safe from what was happening in the outside world and I always thanked God for that, because we were able to stay at home as much as we needed.

This 2021 was for us a year of reactivation, we were gradually incorporating ourselves to the outside life, outside our shelter where we felt safe. It was not easy, knowing that so many people close to us were dying every day because of the virus kept us paralyzed, to be in the street for us was to expose ourselves and we did not know how to live with that. So this 2021 was about...

Learning

We learned that we can go on with our lives, despite the threat that surrounds us, only if we rigorously follow the biosecurity measures.

First it was my turn to attend the office regularly, before I only went to one-off meetings. My colleagues and I take turns and do not all attend at the same time, so there is less crowding and the necessary distance can be maintained to break the chain of transmission.

Then my children had to join the on-site classes, under the same scheme, not all at the same time. Curiously, I have been satisfied with the way this whole safety scheme has worked. Of course we prepared our children well so that they would follow the biosecurity protocol we need to avoid contagion and they are very obedient.

Another very important thing is that we were able to vaccinate almost all of us at home, only my son is missing, because they were administering the vaccines from oldest to youngest and now it is the turn of the children under 12 years old. It will soon be their turn. Even so, the vaccine is not a guarantee of anything, so we always take care of ourselves the same way.

We were also encouraged to enroll our children in extracurricular activities, my daughter in dance and my son in Karate-Do. Both have enjoyed it and have lived up to the commitment. This is something that a few months ago seemed unacceptable to me, but after a year of confinement, I thought it was healthy for them to be on the move with some physical activity. This has involved attending special public events, but with due care, everything has gone well. I think the important thing is not to let our guard down.

And certainly everything written so far is based on our life away from home in times of pandemic, but for us it was something very relevant, we did not take them lightly. However, we never stopped...

Do you know how valuable it is to enjoy good health and to have food on our table every day? In a world situation like the current one, it is even more so, so it is inevitable for me to think how fortunate we are because this year 2021, despite any adversity, God supplied all our needs and we enjoy good health. It is the most valuable treasure we possess, besides the family love that unites us.

I thank God for that and for feeling loved; for being free of thought, with my own identity, for the country where I live, which I love even with all its difficulties, which I know are temporary; because I can breathe and sleep peacefully, because I enjoy my home and share time with my children, because I am alive to look at their little faces and feel their hugs, because I can walk as much as I want, because I have a good companion by my side with whom I can build my dreams.... There is so much to be thankful for, that this list could be very long.

My 2021 in Steemit

It has not been less important, in fact I would say that it took more prominence in my life. Being at home because of the quarantine decreed in my country, gave me the space and time to stay active in this ecosystem that every day is more captivating.

I clearly remember that on the first day of January I wrote a post in which I mentioned that my goal in Steemit for 2021 was to be a dolphin (5,000 SP) . At that time I had only 1,415 SP, it was quite a challenge and although I have not achieved it yet, today I have an SP of 4,193 which represents a significant progress for me. The year is not over yet and although it is still a short time away, I have faith to achieve it.

I have met communities in which I feel very comfortable and I have been learning about cryptocurrencies in the Steemit Crypto Academy. I love the initiatives and the world of possibilities that Steemit offers us. Each community from its space, works hard to make this a great place and I think it is working.

Anyway...

2021 has been a year to overcome fears, to be present, to move forward. 2021 has been a space in time of transition that will lead us to a 2022 full of joy, health and prosperity. At this moment I just want to say:

I hope that in 2022 everyone can make their dreams come true...
