Panhinda 2018 | 5% to SL Charity

The best part of my university life was engaging in charity projects and events. Though I never put 100% into my university academics, I always engaged in events and charity projects putting more than 100%. The university was always good except academic work. 😒

While going up and down through google drive I found a folder that contains photos of one of our charity projects. That is called පන්හිඳ (Panhinda) and it is one of the main projects done by the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering each year before corona hits the country.

Each year, students from the second year of the department do this project. Normally all the students in the Engineering Faculties are good in mathematics. So, we helped Ordinary Level students from the schools with a lesser number of students in the Bandaragama area. We did those seminars at the weekends and many students from nearby schools were also invited for them.

During that time, most of our weekends were dedicated to these seminars. It was very sad to see how they were struggling with mathematics. And after seeing they understand them with our help, happiness comes in doubles. What they did not have were basics. We tried to give them that part.

We divided them into several classes based on their mathematics marks and planned separate programs for them. That helped both sides to deliver understandable lessons. For some students, it was a motivational program to plan their future. That was one of the best outcomes of the program.

It is happy to help them with what we learned for years. Those charity events helped me to understand that we can help others without expecting anything in return and still be happy. Those are the good memories of university life for me, not grades. ❤
