Weekly CRICKET Review - XLIV | BBL

So, how is the World of Cricket treating you? You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. So, it's the 44th edition now!!

As I said in the last week, just after the world cup, regular stuff, was started with a few international series, and some leagues around the world. Today I thought to share some interesting facts on one of thee successful leagues, BBL. So, let's dig in!!

• The Big Bash League (BBL) is an Australian Twenty20 cricket league started in 2011 under Cricket Australia. This 2023–24 season will be the 13 edition!

• One of the amazing things about the BBL is there are BBL legends other than the national team players. During this season, Australia doesn't pause any international matches. This is a high-quality and well-structured tournament with many overseas players also playing, which has resulted in the nourishment of Australian Cricket as well.

• There are eight city-based teams - Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Stars, Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes, Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Thunder, and Sydney Sixers

• Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) was also started in 2015, with teams and colors the same as the existing men's BBL teams.

• Chris Lynn is the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 3421 runs in 111 matches

• Sean Abbot is the leading wicket-taker, with 153 wickets in 106 matches.

• Perth Scorchers is the most successful team in Men's BBL, with 5 championships and being the current champions as well. Sydney Sixers have won the title three times, and Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder have won 01 time each.

• In the 2021-22 season Melbourne Stars scored 273/2 in 20 overs which is the highest by time so far. And can you believe that in the last season, Sydney Thunder all out for just 15 runs against Adelaide Strikers which is the lowest.

• The tournament structure has changed a bit from the last season. And this time it's just like the IPL. There will be 40 group-stage matches, 10 per each and 4 will advance to the next round. Then the tournament is as follows.

Qualifier – First v Second
Knock-Out – Third v Fourth
Challenger – Loser of the Qualifier v Winner of the Knock-Out
Final – Winner of the Qualifier v Winner of the Challenger

• The cash prizes will be distributed as follows:

$20,000 – To the team finishing 5th in the season
$80,000 – To each losing semi-finalist
$260,000 – To the Runner up
$450,000 – To the Winner

• So, two matches were already finished and Brisbane Heat won the first match by 103 runs against Melbourne Stars, with a 99-run selfless knock from Munro. Sydney Sixers won the next match with a thriller against Melbourne Renegades by 08 runs.

• Today Adelaide Strikers will meet Brisbane Heat at the Oval. Let's hope for another thriller.
