After many years of cultivating a wonderful tea plant, the final result is the harvest. So yesterday my father and grandfather plucked tea leaves and collected all the harvest. I saw how they plucked a small part with wonderful 2 leaves and a bud that can enter the process of becoming dried delicious tea leaves.
So after collecting all the harvest they were brought to the tea factory for processing tea leaves. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the Thotupalawatte tea factory with my father and see the art of processing the world's most popular beverage! I am so thrilled with the opportunity and I learned so much.
Did you know that the different varieties of tea come from the same plant? Well, they sure do! The tea plants are the delicious ingredient that make up the worlds most popular beverage! 😋 Once all the harvest is collected they keep in a dark, hot room to reduce water content. The goal of that withering process is to reduce water content by 40%.
After the leaves are withered, they undergo some sort of rolling process via rolling machine. This means the leaves are rolled, twisted or otherwise crushed. Once the leaf is sifted through the Roll Breaker, it is spread out on an even surface and left to allow oxidation or fermentation. Then fermented leaves are passed through the dryer.
Finally tea leaves are sorted into particle sizes by sending them through sifters that sift them through different meshes. This helps to categorize the teas into the different grades - OPA, OP, BOPF etc. The difference in the different varieties of tea is all in the process the leaves go through after plucked.
Isn't it amazing to think that this one plant has such an enormous variety of final products. That's the art of tea! I appreciate the work of tea craftsman working in the tea factories who are behind this huge process of producing such an variety of delicious beverages from this beautiful tea plant! 🍃

Actually I haven't skill of plucking tea leaves. For harvesting there should be skillful hands but I love to learn it. 🙊

Sometimes..it is good and bad..but these day we didn't recieve sufficient price for fresh tea buds.becouse of this reason,most of tea planting people try to sell their tea cultivated lands.🤪

There's a relative of us who has a tea factory in Morawaka. He won the award for the best tea factory in Sri Lanka.. I think it was in 2014.. When we go there, we used to go and see these processes.. it's so hot inside and the air smells like.. tea😂

Actally we can not reach sufficient profit these day with tea.becouse of small tea planters have faced more problems up to now.
