The ECB will redesign the euro banknotes/El BCE rediseñará los billetes de euros

Our brilliant president Christine Lagarde has decided that, after 20 years of introduction of the euro, it is time to redesign the euro banknotes, according to her the banknotes are a tangible and visible symbol of the European Union, therefore they are here to stay and it is necessary adapt its design to the reality of contemporary Europe.

Nuestra flamante presidenta Christine Lagarde ha decido que, tras 20 años de implantación del euro, es hora de rediseñar los billetes de euro, según ella los billetes son un símbolo tangible y visible de la Unión Europea, por tanto están aquí para quedarse y es necesario adaptar su diseño a la realidad de la Europa contemporánea.

The intention is to have the new banknotes ready for printing in 2024, so the ECB has created an advisory group made up of a representative from each country of the union and belonging to different disciplines such as science, art or history and that will select the themes to be represented on the new banknotes.

La intención es tener listos los nuevos billetes para su impresión en el año 2024 por lo que el BCE ha creado un grupo consultivo formado por un representante de cada país de la unión y pertenecientes a distintas disciplinas como ciencia, arte o historia y que seleccionará los temas que se representarán en los nuevos billetes

Once the banknotes' themes have been chosen and the citizens has been consulted, if they like them a design competition for the new banknotes will be called based on the selected themes.After the competition, the citizens will be consulted again and once everything is ready they will proceed to its printing and distribution.

Una vez elegidos los temas de los billetes y consultado a la ciudadanía si les gustan, se convocará un concurso de diseño de los nuevos billetes basados en los temas seleccionados, finalizado el concurso se volverá a consultar a los ciudadanos y una vez que todo esté a gusto de todo el mundo se procederá a su impresión y difusión.

Surely it will seem a bit pretentious on my part to question the "savoir faire" of these brainy gentlemen but, personally, it seems stupid to me as soon as you see the economic panorama, cryptocurrencies and the proliferation of efficient and safe media that will move people to the digital payment.

Seguramente os parecerá un poco pretencioso por mi parte poner en duda el "savoir faire" de estos sesudos señores pero, personalmente, me parece una estupidez a poco que se tenga en cuenta el panorama económico, las criptomonedas y la proliferación de eficientes y seguros medios de pago digital.

Also, taking into account the problems we have in Europe of various kinds, it seems frivolous to spend resources, time and energy in designing little stamps that in the end no one will use.

Además teniendo en cuenta de los problemas que tenemos en Europa de diversos tipos me parece una frivolidad gastar recursos, tiempo y energía en ponerse a diseñar estampitas que al final nadie utilizará.
