QUESTION
In football, there has always been numerous factors in considering the transfer price of a player. These include the publicity, personal stats and performance. But one of the main considerations has always been the player's age. Should this be a main criteria?

Definitely, age is always a factor in most of the things we are involved in and football is no exception to that. A perfect example is Sergio Ramos; one of the greatest defenders if not the greatest is not even able to play 4 to 5 games consistently without getting injured meanwhile in his youthful age he was one of the strongest amongst the players in a team , putting in dangerous and hard tackles and still came out of them feeling like nothing happened.
The same cannot be said now, playing full 90 mins in a game will potentially mean that he will be out for the next 3 games.
Another example is Cristiano Ronaldo who was known as one of the best dribblers in the world and because of age and how injury prone he has gone he has had to adapt and change the way he plays his game. For him he doesn’t get injured so easily because he wouldn’t hold the ball and run across the whole park only to be fouled and injured.
So for me I think it’s a yes; age should be a factor when determine the price tag of a player , the younger the player the higher his price and the older the player the lower his price.
Great examples. Thanks.
Age should not be a criterion to determine the value or price of a player, but it does play an important role, as age can measure the time the player has left to remain an active footballer, for example: A club will not pay an exaggerated amount of money for a 37 year old player who will possibly only play one season, it would be a bad investment, as it can invest in a younger player who could play many seasons and serve for a long term project.
At the beginning I said that it should not be a criterion, as there are players who skip this rule, this is due to the performance they show despite their age, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo or Buffon, the latter are examples to follow, but in the end if they end up being reflected in the price, as the clubs work as a company that evaluates how much a player can get to perform or the benefits that a player can leave them over time, let's say that time is money and this is a factor that everyone takes into account.
To conclude he clarifies that it should not be a factor to measure the value, but in the end a player is treated as an investment that has an expiry date, it is painful to say and it sounds cruel, but that's how the world works in different areas.
Nice examples friend. Thank you.
I don't think age should be component in transfer fee of a player.
Sir Alex Ferguson introduced the adage which says " If you are good enough, you are old enough". I think talent should be the criteria in deciding a transfer fee of a player.
And I also think the younger the better. Take a look at iniesta, Aguero and the rest. Age shouldn't be an obstacle in a transfer fee
Nice quote.
Yes, age should be a key component in determining the transfer price of a player.
Reasons
1.Considering of young and older players when injured it takes a very long time for older players to recover.
Good points. Thank you.
Experience is needed when it comes to the game. For me, talent takes you somewhere but experience does take you far so i don't really have a problem with it being a key component
