The Best Player Award is mostly based on the forwards because they are mostly the ones that attain the win for the team and they also have more skillful touches with the ball, most times, they create chances in a match and push the attacks. The struggle with, conquer the opponent and score. While the work of the midfielders is just to distribute passes while the defenders just have to contest for the ball and clear, still moving it forward to the attackers.

Personally, I don't think the forwards should be the ones only concentrated on when talking about the best player award. This is because each member of the team has his own role to the success of the game. The attackers cannot contest the ball, pass, dribble and win.

Currently, football federation is really doing something about it which we have noticed, that is why Kante and Jorginho who are midfielders were ranked high in the Balon d'or and also Thiago Silva who is a defender was awarded the Best Player of the club world cup.

But more can be done, I think they should expand the features they watch when choosing best players looking beyond just goals, dribbles and assists, they should also get to consider the touches, movements, creativity and even the impact a player makes to the team. This will help pave way for midfielders and Defenders to be fully involved in the players contesting for the Best Player awards.
