I want to share with you guys why it is necessary to take smoothy and how it helps in keeping your body. Smoothies are now popping up everywhere in the country and it is because of its deliciousness, rich in nutrients and health benefits it gives to the body.

The good thing about this particular recipe is that, you can make it at your comfort zone with some healthy ingredients that is suitable for your nutritional needs.

But before we start looking at the health benefits of smoothies, I think it will be important to know what they are and how to prepare them.

Smoothies are thick, creamy beverages that are blended from fruits, vegetables, juices, seeds, etc. Basically smoothies are made of two essential ingredients, a base and a liquid. You combine these two things to your liking and blend them.

Some smoothies include frozen ice cubes that give the final product a cool taste. With their flavor, it varies and also depend on the ingredients you use.

Below are some of the most used ingredients in making smoothies:

Fruits: berries, banana, apple, peach, mango, and pineapple.

Vegetables: arugula, wheatgrass, avocado, cucumber, beetroot, cauliflower, and carrots.

Liquids: water, fruit juice, vegetable juice, milk, coconut water, iced tea, and cold brew coffee.

Sweetness: raw sugar, honey, dates, fruit juice concentrates, stevia, ice cream, and sorbet.


Smoothies maybe classified into the below categories, although there is much different between them:

Fruits Smoothie: This type of smoothie consist of one or more different fruits blended together with water, fruit juice, milk, or ice cream.

Green Smoothie: This smoothie consist of leafy green vegetables and fruits blended with juice, water, or milk. Green smoothies are heavier in veggies than normal smoothies.

Protein Smoothie: The protein smoothie is usually made up of a fruit or vegetable and a liquid be it water, milk or any of the liquids blended with a major protein source like, Greek yogurt or protein powder.

Increases The Intake Of Fibre: Some smoothies contain fibre and this fibre helps the human digestive system and help prevent heart diseases, diabetes and colon cancer. Some of the fibre fruits are, pears, strawberries, blackberries, etc.

Help In Controlling Food Cravings: This is another health benefit of taking smoothie. Taking smoothies as breakfast serves as a source of energy and protein. From research studies, the intake of more protein reduces food cravings.

So taking it as breakfast will help control your craving for unnecessary foods later in the day. Smoothies provide longer lasting energy due to the protein found in them. Proteins consists of complex molecules which doesn’t easily break down as compared to carbohydrates.

Provides Nutritional Balance In The System: Smoothies contains all the nutrients needed by the body. So it is the main way of getting a nutritional balance with the use of fruits and vegetables as it’s basic ingredients, followed by the healthy fats in seeds or butter and protein.
