Benefits of Honey and methods to know an unadulterated honey
Hi everyone, glad to be here again today to bring you an amazing topic and article which I believe will be of great benefits to us all. Our topic today will be based solely on ''benefits of honey and methods to know a good honey''. So lets kick off.
So as a child, I thought the sole purpose and use of honey was its sweetened taste for my bread and pap but all in all, i was totally wrong because the benefits of honey goes beyond just that.
There are various benefits of honey ranging from hair and skin treatment to wound healing

Honey contains more of sugar with no fat. However, it has a small trace of protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals. In addition to this,honey is rich in health-promoting plant compounds known as polyphenols source

Honey contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which aids in wound healing. It is used in the care of burns, wounds and cuts.
This is one of the effective substances for wound healing. In my ward at my place of work, this is one of the substances prescribed for patients for wound care and I must say, the effect is very impressive and positive.
Skin care
Hair treatment
As a mosturizer, it helps in treatment of dandruff and softens the scalp. It also helps to reduce itching effect.
Honey acts as a mosturizer and helps in the treatment of certain conditions like acne and helps to smoothen the skin. It can also be used as a scrub by mixing with sugar which acts as a natural exfoliator.
Contains antioxidants
This helps to boost immunity of the individual. These antioxidants include phenolic acids and flavonoids and are effective for removing free radicals from the body (https://food.ndtv.com)
Cough treatment
Honey can be mixed with warm water to reduce cough by soothing the throat and reduce the effects of bacteria due to its anti-bacterial properties.
Weight loss
When mixed with lime, it can increase body metabolism. Thus, reducing weight.
Prevents heart diseases
According to research, honey may help to lower blood pressure, improve blood fat levels. It may also help to regulate heartbeat and prevent deterioration of healthy cells.
Can be added to diet
This is definitely one of my best uses. If you have tasted a combo of bread and honey, you would know why i like it so much. However, it can be used with yoghurts and also as toppings for pancakes. This i definitely hope to try out soon as well.
Methods to know a good honey
There are two methods I use more often than not. They are:
- Use of a matchstick or bud: When the matchstick is lit and placed on the honey, if it burns, then it is not adulterated.
- Known as water test: Put a drop of honey in a bowl of water, an unadulterated honey will float.

Hi, @lilly97. I love to add honey to my yogurt and pancakes, and I've also used it to exfoliate the skin of my face. I've used honey with multiple purposes: to make cakes or a cocktail, for a soar throat (along with rum and orange juice), etc. It's nice you've elaborated on this topic.
