SEC-S15W3"Challenges, Solutions and World Waste Problems"

On a daily basis, the waste bin is always full. The waste workers do pack waste every evening till it's late. In the morning, the waste seen can cover a 6 feet hole. This is shocking no doubt. You'll sometimes wonder, is it that they eat most at night or on the morning. When I see piles of waste, I'm always astonished. If these waste are to be viewed as money, it would worth billions of naira.

The bins are there for fancy because people don't throw their wastes in bins or trash cans. They prefer keeping it on the floor. How is waste kept and managed in my country. The below has an explanation.

What do you think when you see someone throwing rubbish carelessly? and, in your country what is the form of punishment for people who deliberately throw rubbish carelessly?

In my country, I would say most people love dirty lives as they are carefree about how wastes are disposed. It all begin when the government fails to provide waste cans in a particular location. One person would drop his waste in one corner of the road. In weeks to come, that place the person dropped his waste will turn to a big heap of waste because when another person sees the waste there, he or she would view that's a dumping site for wastes.
This would be done continuously until it is officially a dumping site. I feel irritated when I see people drop their wastes carelessly. They are the reasons we have land pollution.

  • Most people prefer keeping or disposing their wastes on the floor close to a trash can than inside the can. They view it as stress.

  • Some others consider putting their wastes in gutters so when rain falls, the wastes would be transported.

There are no disciplinary actions concerning waste disposal in my state compared to other states. People view it as a normal way of life to dispose waste carelessly even when when there's a fine to pay for defaulters.

At your place, is waste used to increase income? What are the benefits of waste that can make money there?

In my place, waste isn't used as a source income compared to other places where they are recycled and then new products are formed. The only aspect I know is the taking of cans from wastes heap and then selling them off to people who come around to buy it.

This is one of the many ways I used waste when I was young to earn money. Wastes may be repulsive but can be very useful. Most market women or traders who sell drinks like zobo, fruit drinks and tiger nuts needs plastic bottles to achieve this. They'll go to waste heaps and then search for these bottles as much as so they can use it in their businesses instead of having to buy these bottles from vendors.

Let me breakdown what waste comprises of. Wastes are those things people view as unwanted and then take it out and dispose. These could be;

  • spoilt televisions, gadgets and technological devices

  • cans and bottles including some irons and the likes of them

  • degradable and non-degradable waste.

In your opinion, how do you manage household waste properly so that it does not have a bad impact on the environment?

In my opinion, I think household waste should be incinerated or properly disposed to those who would manage these wastes and then use them to create something useful.

I'll ensure I avoid disposing my household waste carelessly or putting them in gutters to swim. I can recall when a woman took all her household waste and dumped in the flood that passed our street. She did this so the water can take her waste to God knows where. She also did so to prevent going to waste cans that may be far or burning them.

This is very unhealthy because at some point, the flood always stops and even these wastes won't be completely carried out by the flood. It could stop in front of someone's house, litering the person's compound and also making breathing difficult.

When I see market women sell edible fruits and foods beside refuse dumps, I ask myself how inhumane of them. Seems they are used to the smell that comes from these wastes. So in as much as I prioritise my health, I'll ensure I don't take chances what come may.

Will the accumulation of large amounts of waste affect the comfort of people in your neighboring country? How did that happen? share your opinion

Accumulation of waste has a whole effect on individual in the sense that;

  • It makes the environment dirty

  • Accumulation of dirt can invite bacteria and infection to individuals such as cholera and other ailments

  • it can block the drainage flow and gutters

Hi @queenella1

I share with you the same indignation, when I see someone throwing their waste out of the garbage drum or on any street corner. There is a lack of education and principle, which is a lack of sense of belonging.

The local government also has responsibility in this, because they don't pick up the drums that are full of waste and there is no pick up schedule, which makes people turn the site into another garbage dump.

Happy afternoon.

If it is said that people like dirty environments, maybe everyone will answer that they don't like dirty or unhealthy environments, but why do they throw rubbish carelessly? I think people who throw rubbish are not self-aware, or have low education because at school they always teach us to throw away rubbish. trash in its place so that the environment is protected and does not bring disease to all of us. Thank you for participating in this contest. Good luck in this week's competition. Thank You.

I agree with your statement that there are many people who live dirty lives because they try to keep their home screen but not the surroundings of their home because they considered that it is shameful to keep it clean. You participate very well I wish to success in this engagement challenge

Indeed, my friend, if the government provides its citizens with waste bins, then the throwing of rubbish carelessly on the floor will definitely reduce. Charity they say begins at home 🏡 and all those who throw rubbish 🗑 carelessly are dirty people and it pains me each time i see shut people.

I sometimes wonder if they are comfortable living in a dirty environment, instead of them cleaning it they will be accumulating more waste products which is very bad and it will affect our health.

I live in a military 🪖 basa, and anyone caught throwing waste 🗑 anyhow will be severely punished.

Accumulation of large amounts of waste affect people leaving around us at it will result to air pollution si we should try and avoid it.

I really enjoyed reaching your entry and i wish 🤞 you success in this challenge 🙌

Happy Sunday from @bonaventure24
