From everything I've read (I'm not an expert), it sounds like we don't have enough players who "know" 50 over cricket. The likes of Liam Livingstone are great if you give them a few balls to smack but if they need to think about the game-state, they just can't do it.
We'll see. Despite losing every match, it was only the game against South Africa that we were really terrible!

IMO Livingstone is overrated for 50 overs! he is more like a T20 player... also the approach of Bazball somewhat ruin the overall game plan (I remember SL too experimented fearless cricket and they couldn't even qualify). A great like Joe Root is the prime example how the game should play and others can learn from him.
Livingstone has always been one of my favourite players to watch but he has his place... and it's definitely short-format cricket!
Joe Root's just so consistent and reliable. We would certainly benefit from more players like him!
