RE: ❓Steemit Quiz 2025 - Week 7

in NO Communityyesterday

I'm open to feedback

As we have already established, we are quite a small group of quizzers. The number of participants is very manageable, and it's always the same users. However, I can very well imagine that there are more people interested who would like to check out the answers to one question or another. After all, @disconnect consistently features this quiz on his contest list. This means that not only your many loyal followers should be able to discover the puzzle. So, what's going on?
I had the idea that “new” users/participants might not dare to join in because they are intimidated by the "Overall Rankings." I mean, anyone who is new and actually reads the post before guessing must be thinking: "So what? I have no chance at all anyway!"
Yes, I think I would leave. Just like how I personally stay in the game because my team is determined to catch up with the competitors. We have a chance. “Newcomers” don’t.
It needs to become clear in the future that the primary focus is on the game and the fun of playing, not on the top ranking of the year.

Everything else is of course absolutely brilliant... 🤗

🤔 Well, I could remove the overall ranking and keep it a secret until the end of the year.

Part of the idea behind the guest answer was so that new people might get tagged - which didn’t really work!

I think most users prefer contests that don’t require any thought or that AI can generate. I know a few people dropped out because watching my feed for updates was too much effort.

It’s tricky. I like the mentality of the people already taking part and perhaps that reflects how few users are ‘like us’, rather than people not knowing about it. I don’t know 🤷

For now though, I’ll remove the overall ranks so the weekly prize is more prominent.

What if we introduce a special “wild card” round designed specifically for newcomers? For one week, fresh faces could compete on equal footing, giving them a real chance to see how fun the quiz can be. Also, since each weekly quiz can have up to 20 questions, it’s not like anyone’s overall position is completely locked in. A dedicated newcomer could potentially climb the leaderboard within two weeks if they really put in the effort.

The other thing is this quiz has their own set of challenges. It’s not just about solving the questions, it’s about being quick to answer, keeping an eye on the blog for updates, and juggling different time zones. That extra work might discourage people who prefer simpler contests. Still, I think creating a wild card or “welcome week” for new participants could lower the barrier to entry and help them experience the fun without feeling too far behind from the start.

How do you see the 'welcome week' working?

I was wondering if new joiners could get double points or something for their first week?

Perhaps for the first 10 answers! If the turnout is too low, it would be unfair to the current players. But all this has to be promoted! more players mean more fun 🤸‍♂️

To give them a fair chance, the players currently on the leaderboard will have a week off.

So you want me to spend a very, very boring week???

We can have Wördel round with 50 words! 😁

keep it a secret

No, that would be demotivating for the previous participants. It just doesn't have to appear so prominent. Maybe a "BTW" at the end of the article...
Instead, you could open a kind of "Hall of Fame" in which the weekly victories are recorded. Once a month?

new people might get tagged

"New" people aren't tagged anyway, only those who have won and have the game in mind anyway.
Besides, tagging is a tricky thing. Some people like it, some people need it, some people hate it. I hate it and am only here a) because I look at my feed b) because I'm interested and have no other ambitions c) for your sake.

watching my feed for updates was too much effort.

Poor, poor Steemit, where have you gone?
