It's not like I know the first thing about cricket...
AI helped me this time: I asked about trophies in cricket and immediately found the 10,000-run mark interesting (there was even a name I'd forgotten). Wiki. Club, club, club... 9.999... Wow! He may not be in the club, but I bet that number will immortalise Steve Smith!
So full intention not to get that one more run... ;-)
Ah yes, maybe that's it! If he'd have scored that 10,000th run, he'd never have anything to talk about! "Yeah, mate. I'm just one of a handful of players to score over 10,000 runs" whereas now, people will ask about always being 1 run short of 10,000 and he'll seem more interesting!
